2022/23 Anthony Gordon

Taking Broja on loan in exchange for selling Gordon would be very disappointing.
Broja is still more potential than reality.
He is a also CF rather than Forward so once Calvert - Lewin returns in two or three weeks he will be a bench warmer at best.
If we have to sell Gordon let’s not end up paying for the dubious privilege of developing another teams player only to have to pay out more money on next seasons replacement.
So what is Gordon then?

We need a striker and Broja is the primary target.

If we get £50m+ a loan for Broja that'd be a good deal.

Given nobody actually knows what funds we currently have mate, I find the argument strange, going off reliable reports from decent none blagging journos, we offered 25m for MGW, money's there already - Gordon being sold just creates another need to fill in limited time, as fir waiting till January, we do that mate well we will be changing managers as well+
We'll have offered to match whatever Forest paid as a downpayment for MGW. I was led to believe Wolves wanted £15m+ earlier in the window and at that time we weren't willing. Maybe things changed... because we had a good idea we'd be getting a massive cash injection.

He got two more goals than Gordon playing as a centre forward, in 300 less minutes.
It's not like he's Lukaku when we brought him in after his loan at West Brom, who got 17 goals in approximately the same amount of minutes.
But he is the priority target and has been all summer for the back up striker/rotation option.

It was more to do with the players we replaced him with. Rooney couldn't do everything on his own but the 2 or 3 players we replaced him with made a great contribution. Cahill and Pip Neville I think.
It was just Cahill and Marcus Bent as far as I can remember. We sold Graveson in Jan 2005 and got Arteta in on loan.

Neville came in 2005, after the CL qualification.

I don’t understand the obsession with Broja, especially if we are looking at a loan at best. I’d rather Maupay or Adams. We need two forwards anyway, not just one.
Neither do I tbh, you would have to ask Frank what it's all about. Knowing a few saints fans (i live down south) he was great in a high press (we don't really play like that) but as soon as Ralph started mixing the formation up he looked quite lost at times.

When you think about the talent our Academy has produced, I think Gordon is probably the best since the likes of Rooney and Osman came through the ranks - hopefully we can all agree. The only shout would be Barkley, but I honestly think Gordon has more to him than Ross.

But looking at the others - Tom Davies, Francis Jeffers, Shane Duffy (sort of), Jack Rodwell, Victor Anichebe, Beni Baningame, JonJoe Kenny, James Vaughn, Luke Garbutt, Matthew Pennington, Tyias Browning - the list of disappointments is long.

I know the rate of Academy products to superstar 1st teamer isn't supposed to be particularly high. But you've got to look at our Academy's performance over the past 10 years and wonder how we're scouting / nurturing talent.

If we do get £60mfor this guy then that's a brilliant return for the time and money invested. But you can't help thinking we should have a solid cohort of 3-4 promising Anthony Gordon's pushing for 1st team football and we'd be letting this one go because we can afford to.

Barkley was better at the same age by quite some distance. Think he got 8 goals and 8 assists in 38 games at the same age.

Not to say Gordon won’t be better but he’s got a long way to go imo.

Barkley was head and shoulders above Gordon. It isn't even close. Barkley could have been something special and he had the talent to change a game. His goal at Newcastle was better than anything Gordon has produced.

Gordon hasn't shown anything to make people think this.

He is just a hard worker.
