2022/23 Anthony Gordon

£60 million seems insane but the prices of replacements are also eye watering. There is no guarantee that it means they can get two quality players in.
Never more apt, "Knowing the Price of Everything and Value of Nothing"... Until Everton keep hold of their best, we will continue to kowtow the SKY/BT clubs. and be second rate, too many here happy to fulfil this prophecy.

Barkley was head and shoulders above Gordon. It isn't even close. Barkley could have been something special and he had the talent to change a game. His goal at Newcastle was better than anything Gordon has produced.

Gordon hasn't shown anything to make people think this.

He is just a hard worker.
At one point I thought Barkley was going to be world class but he never quite had the consistency at Everton before he chucked his career down the toilet at Chelsea.

I think Gordon can be a very good player but don’t think he’ll ever hit the heights of a Rooney.

Unfortunately we can’t keep hold of our top players because the club has been run into the ground.

Barkley was better at the same age by quite some distance. Think he got 8 goals and 8 assists in 38 games at the same age.

Not to say Gordon won’t be better but he’s got a long way to go imo.

Yeah I think it's a fair debate. I might be bigging up Gordon a bit too much there.

I suppose the only thing I'd mention though would be the two sides were different. One was a fairly stable Martinez side he was regularly played in - who weren't a bottom of the bottom half of the table side. When Barkley started playing for us, weren't we finishing around 5th or 6th with Moyes/Martinez? Which ultimately then led to Martinez's 11th place finish and he was subsequently given the boot.

Gordon has had a bit of a shocking time in consistency with managers and even position in more recent games - he's not exactly in a team I'd say could be compared to that of Barkley's earlier years. We could say, well he should shine and stand out even more then shouldn't he?

The difference between Gordon and Barkley is Gordon hasn't got a pie between his ears.

I mean he’s reportedly pushing for a move to a team that is an absolute morgue for young talent when he has literally watched the aforementioned pie brain go there and have his career ripped into tatters

They're not as bad as some make out though are they?

Broja, Billy Gilmour, Conor Gallagher, Hudson Odoi, Reece James, Declan Rice, Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Loftus Cheek.

I know which Academy graduates I'd rather have!

It's not an easy team to break into but it's the nature of having probably The Premier League's best academy invest in you. You don't get a lot of time to impress before you're shopped for a good return on investment.

They’re just jot very good at playing them though is my point. They seem to make good players but aside from really James and Mount (who tied in with the transfer ban) they just seem to loan or sell the rest.

Great model though, very jealous

But he will be considerably richer whether he makes it or not at Chelsea

You can't teach pace though

yeah I heard he was struggling with the cost of living increase.

Come off it, he will be on a fortune now.

I could understand if he was going somewhere to play 1st team football but he wont get a sniff at Chelsea. Look at Richarlison, only played 45 mins in 3 games.
