What makes no sense is that they fought to keep him then he doesn't play. The team both fails to identify outside talent that can help and can't accurately assess their own talent either.
I think anyway he just isnt good enough.
That is why he doesnt play , it is why he plays so poorly so often and is why a lot of fans dislike him. Not sure it is about lack of effort or passion. I just think he isnt up to it. He has talent and potential but I cant see him developing. But and this is the bit that hurts he is at the right club for his level. We are championship atm.

The “star-boy” mantra the club peddled in the pre-season was utterly stupid. I feel genuinely sorry for this kid.

I dont know if other clubs do this. But i cringe at some of the stuff Everton put out. And thats just stuff i see on on twitter or youtube as i dont even really follow it. You really havent got to be that good at Everton to get smoke blown up your arse. Does it over inflate ego's? I dunno. But we really do lord mediocrity on a scale i dont notice elsewhere. But maybe that because im more involved with Everton so i notice it more. Ive posted this before about one particular thing that bugs me is if we go on a huge unbeaten run of 2 games we're suddenly conquering the world.
I actually read on here last week someone post that alex iwobi has been the best player in his position in the entire league this year. I mean wtf. There you are. Lording absolute mediocrity.

The whole ethos of the club is rotten and completely wrong.

He could rip up his contract and leave tomorrow based on the footage of what happened to him….and most would even be happy that happened, and be made up he is out of the club.

I'm guessing every club does it, but our social media comes across as pathetic because there are never results or performances to back up the crap they post. Portraying us as heroic in defeat at Old Trafford last week was typical.

Also, pop into any thread on here after a rare victory and there'll be plenty of people telling you they were always convinced a certain player would come good. Everyone should know by now this squad is poor and the players are among some of the worst in the league.

I'm not a fan of Micah Richards but he actually got it spot on when he said on MOTD that Gordon played like he had a right sulk on when he came on yesterday. Rarely do I trash our players but he was absolute garbage during his spell on pitch.

After turning down very good offers we wouldn't get 2p for him now.

The kid is abused by the fans every week, just as Barkley was and Stones was and Lukaku was.

Of course he’s going to be in a strop.

Exactly this. We absolutely love to reward mediocrity. Look at last season Gordon gets 2 goals that he knows about in a whole season, the worst season in most a lot of fan’s lifetimes and recent memory and ends up as our Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year. Have an absolute ridiculous offer then from Chelsea in the summer from a man who doesn’t understand football and we’re too stupid to sell him, despite the fact we’re absolutely broke. I don’t care it was £60m outright or £40m + addons, Gordon has shown absolutely nothing that he’ll ever be near half of those valuations but we turn it down because the manager loves him for some reason.

Then you’ve got Iwobi, a player who has had literally a single maybe 6 week spell of good form and a couple months spell of doing the absolutely bare minimum of running around over his 3.5 years at Everton where he’s largely been utter crap. Now he’s set to get a fat new contract, same with Gordon, at the same time we’re struggling to tie down Pickford who outside of rare moments has been great for us in the entirety of his spell.

If Iwobi and Gordon were so good that they deserved new contracts wouldn’t you think teams would be banging down our door now trying to get them on the cheap? There’s constant reports of Spurs, Chelsea and United all looking at Pickford, because he’s a very good player and would play for those sides, there’s not a single of the 17 teams above us in the Premier League even looking at enquiring about Iwobi and Gordon but yet here we are straight to give them new deals on massive money.

It’s an absolute joke.
