2022/23 Anthony Gordon

I disagree. He was hyped a bunch last season, but he was the same player he is now. The reason he stood out was his work rate, in a team full of players who had given up. That was it. Gordon being local was enough of a reason for him suddenly being crowned our saviour. He was never very good and has never shown the natural talent really good footballers possess from the get go. Look at a young James Rodriguez, you could see his natural talent with a ball when he was Gordons age and younger. Gordon is a speed merchant who cant last more than 65minutes.
Well, then I hope it isn't true that we are interested. With a bit of luck The Toon will cough up 50m+ for him

We were saying that about Barkley for years. Least Ross had shown something to think he would become a special talent by that age.

In a better team of course he would look like a decent player but I don't think he will be more than that.
When we had Barkley on loan he was brilliant for the first 10/12 games or so. I loved the guy and wanted us to make his loan permanent. But the next 10/12 games he was Dog Poo. He just walked around the pitch and did nothing. I was delighted to see him return to Chelaea

Not a clue how to use his pace either, to the point where many people would have no idea he is fast.

Traore is an awful greasy footballer, but one sight of him ready to come on we panic, change the shape of the whole team, but then completely ignore him and allow his mere presence on the pitch to lead to a goal. Speed merchants like that are useful. He’s terrible but would be far more effective for us and create space for Dom. Gordon doesn’t know what he is. Not tricky, can’t cross, no long range bangers, no clever penetrative passes. Just the occasional full blooded tackle on the touchline in none dangerous area getting the Lower Bullens excited. The disastrous loan was glossed over, but looking back said it all.

Really? So as a youngster training with the first team trying to make an impact, you think pissing around is a good way to get noticed?
Yes really. It's such a bizarre point to make. Footballers are human beings and allowed to show it. Are you seriously suggesting that one 2 second clip of him laughing with a coach shows he has poor application? Because if it does every footballer in existence must have poor application.

I wish I could find the clip. Big Dunc wasn't laughing..

Fair enough if you think it is a bizarre point. I think it absolutely is the point with this shower that we have at the moment and that was something I recalled about Gordon which I remembered because Dunc didn’t look to happy.

Of course I'm not saying footballers shouldn't be human and of course they should be able to have a laugh, but there is a time and a place. We are in a serious situation at the moment and we need characters that will focus on what they need to do and push themselves to the limit to achieve it. He is not coming across to me as someone prepared to do that. That was my overall point.

Also fair enough if you think his application is spot on, but I don't. Will have to agree to disagree...

Gordon is the reason most of the management team needs to go. They developed him and watched him in practice and in games. Based on what they saw they gave him the number 10 jersey and fended off sale attempts. Then within a matter of weeks he was not starting and barely playing. And when he did play he did nothing. If you can't remotely figure out who is good on your own team, how do you expect them to find talent somewhere else?
