Anthony Gordon

Where have I said we should abuse people

I'm stating a simple fact to counter your post. You played down the importance of mentality and I'm telling you mentality is what matters most in elite sport.

Even someone like Tiger Woods who had all the ability in the world, wouldn't have been the greatest sportsman of the last 25 years, if he didn't have a mentality to back up his talent.

Belief, determination, motivation, hard work, dealing with adversity, responding to setbacks, knowing how to build on success etc. These are things I'm talking about when I say mentality. Absolutely nothing to do with abuse nor do I want people taking abuse.

Declan Rice was rejected by Chelsea and was the last at West Ham to get a bare minimum scholarship with a pro contract.

Getting over that and becoming a £100mill player is probably more difficult that some numpties giving you grief.

It's part of the game. The first things players getting out of the academy have to overcome is abuse from fans. Can't hack 20 having a go at you on a sunday, you're not going to make it when there's thousands.

Put it this way...The levels of abuse players get at the elite level clubs is more cut throat than anything we dish out.
We aren’t going to agree, that’s fine
I’ts not for me nor a lot if our plsyers

I think that’s unfair. I’d have left if I was him. Why would he want any part of it?
Because he was supposedly a life long fan.... but has since disproved that theory and kissing the Newcastle badge today just sticks the knife in a bit more. OK, lots of players go through the motions of kissing a club badge to win favour with their fans but Gordon never misses an opportunity to do stuff like this. Well rid.

I doubt when he kisses the badge he’s thinking of everton fans tbh.

Yeah well, Tiger never got the type of abuse that footy fans in the UK are capable of delivering.

"Oh I say, very bad shot Tiger... do better".... compared to abusing the player, his wife, kids, family etc is pretty lame stuff.

Yes, Tiger had a winner's mentality but golf isn't exactly the same type of physical sport that football is. That said, how he won the US Open when hobbling on an ACL injury was a pure masterclass on how to overcome pain and despair.

Yeah all fair

Just was the first person who came into my head when thinking about mentality. No one comes close to him during my lifetime.

It's long been established he's a red
