Anthony Gordon

If they lose their last game of the season and have a bad start to next season. They will turn on Howe quickly.
And if they do they'll replace him.

It's not like they're hundreds of millions of pounds in debt due to sheer incompetence.

If you want to believe we're almost in a similar situation to Newcastle and could even overtake them in a few short years, that's great. We'll leave it there.

I hope he gets the big move he wants. Seems a very sideways move from Everton to Newcastle. It worked initially with them finishing 4th but they are level 7th and Everton without the points deduction are level 10th. Very strange move to Newcastle tbh.

That's a very blue tinted take on where both clubs currently are and realistically looking to go in the short to medium term future.

As it stands he's played CL games at Dortmund, PSG and the San Siro, has a bigger contract and hasn't had his car surrounded by aggressive man-babys blaming an academy player for the clubs woes. That's not a sideways move.

Some already have because they might not get Europe and because they have had some awful spells this season (with a huge injury list).

But I bet if you ask their owners what their plan was, Europe won’t have been planned until year 4/5 considering where they were. So Howe is very safe.

Year 1 - get safe.
2 - top 14 and safe comfortably
3- push for top 10
4 - potential challenge for top 7
5 - definite push for Europe

Other than Isak, Barnes and probably Gordon, they don’t really have any ‘ballers’ and are just a bunch or workhorses. And last seasons running themselves into the ground for 4th, has led to them all breaking down this season.

It’s essentially a worse version of what Liverpool try to do, but liverpools cycle lasts 3/4 years before they break down.

But it’s a much better situation than we are in and Gordon will be happy staying there I’m sure.

I think Year 2 onwards was some form of European football. Look at the clubs who've played Europa over the last few years and there's no way oil money is believing it takes 4 years to hit that level potentially. You don't sell a club to highly coveted prospects like Isak by telling him you're looking for top 14 or top 10.

CL was definitely ahead of schedule but I think year 5 onwards was/is CL on the regular and legitimate title challenger. The big thing in Howe's favour is the way this seasons points deductions have made them very wary of throwing the same degree of money at it without selling.

Nah, year 2 onwards? They won 1 of their first 20 in year 1. They won’t have thought they would go from that to Europe in the space of 1 season.

I'm talking first full season as year 1 rather than the season they took over. From a position where they had their people in place from pre-season and summer window.

EDIT - for clarification Yr 2 being when they at a minimum were qualifying for some form of European football rather than already competing.

I very much doubt that the owners were thinking about 5 years until they got into Europe there is no way they would want to wait that long.
I think Howe will be outed next week

You've got to be joking even we aren't a million miles away from a European push theres no way Newcastle thought it was going to take them 5 years to get there when they were throwing hundreds of millions of pounds around!

Maybe it is, I am glass half full yes. For our history we have mostly been above Newcastle so I don't see the major jump forward you do.

Sounds cool to me, a new decent owner would have us above them in no time. I prefer to stay optimistic. Enjoy your day.

But this being an Anthony Gordon thread then his decision to move was based on his career and it's prospects in the relative short term. The balance of success over the previous 100 years is no metric whatsoever to define it as a 'sideways' move for him and his career.

Stay at Everton - Show ability to perform for a lower half / relegation battling side - see what happens next?
Go to Newcastle - Show ability to perform in upper half and in European competition - see what happens next?

What looks a more 'sideways' move in overall career trajectory there? He may be (have been??) a Blue but I'm not entirely sure that Everton winning the FA Cup nearly 6 years before he was born is a massive factor when he's deciding what he considers to be a step up for his prospects.

Isn't he a RS anyway ? I am sure I read that somewhere

You do know their fans actually punch horses when they get upset?

His agent is certainly earning his corn, either way there will be a juicy new contact tabled soon, either in Wey Eh land or by the Red side.
Personally think it would be hilarious if he went to the Shabite, would really look forward to his next Oscar acceptance level speech of getting the move, also as much as the geordie fume, fog on the Tyne indeed.
