Antolin Alcaraz

So are plenty of our players including Ross, mistakes are part of the game.

How about we cross that bridge if/when it comes and today enjoy a good win in a match that was a potential banana skin?
Don't know why so many people are complaining. We had a real tough match away at Lille on a pudding of a pitch and come back to play a team fighting for their lives in an early kick off. 3 goals 3 points and yet people are still moaning. Yes not great opposition but I thought the second half was a really professional performance.

Agree, seems like Alcaraz is getting criticised for goals he is going to cost us in the future. Odd, when so far this season he has been the one member of our defence who isn't responsible for a goal and he has saved at least one certain one.

In an ideal world I'd prefer Stones to be playing but he can't and at the moment Alcaraz seems at least as good a replacement for him as Distin is.

I wasn't a fan of Alcaraz when he started with us and wondered why Bobby seemed so far off the mark with him. Although he can still tend to get muscled out of things, hes much improved positionally and has made important interceptions when there was a bit of a panic at the back.

Alcaraz's injuries have hindered his entire career. Last year was virtually a write off for him and fortunately he seems to be over these injuries. The lad has football ability, but at this level you require pace. A jagielka and Alcaraz pairing lacks the pace for us to play a high line and condense play and press teams. Against the likes of Villa and Burnley he has done Ok, but the thought of Bony and Routledge next week is more worrying. I think we could see Distin back in the team. Distin is the opposite, he has the pace but not the footballing ability. Stones is a Rolls Royce of defending as he has the pace and the ability on the ball so lacking in English centre halves.

Thought he was decent today, apart from that one where he tried to kick it against his head back to Howard or whatever he tried to do :) But we will blame the wind for that one...!

I think he will always be a symbol of 'that' night in that game across the park in January for some people though, although I don't mind him in all honesty, still only as back up though... !

Generally agree but a little concerned Distin's legs might not be as fast as they were last season.

Hopefully it is just taking him a while to settle into the groove this season - he was certainly better in the second half of the Lille game than the first. But those are our 3rd and 4th choice CBs, I certainly prefer either of them to Liverpool's equivalent options.
