Antolin Alcaraz

Not sure if Rm has raised expectations to ridiculous levels, but the way Alcaraz coped with a swirling gale and a lack of hold up play from the likes of Rom and Ossie - plus his lack of game time over 12 months - leaves nothing to criticise. Maybe we should get a Skirtl or Evans to satisfy our new found mentality. He'll certainly do a better job than the ageing Distin until Stones returns
I can only presume you didn't see the Lille game.

He's our FOURTH CHOICE centre back.

Bear in mind Mangala (who cost £32 million) is one of City's key centre backs and he's shaky as it gets

Who's Liverpool's 4th choice CB? Kolo Toure!

Spurs? Chiriches! Anyone see the Europa league tie against Besiktas for Spurs. It was embarrassing.

Yes we'll probably need a new CB in jan (or next season, get Galloway blooded in IMO) but on our budget as a 4th choice CB, he's not that bad. Only the Anfield match last season (where no one played well aside from Barkley) or Soton away were real howlers

Thought he did well, few shaky moments on the ball and that one time in the first half he let his man get goal side. Think he gets a lot of unfair stick.

Reads the game extremely well and I don't think anyone would disagree, however he does lack pace, naturally with his age and the injuries he has had.

Him and Jagielka are a much better partnership than Jags and Distin though, IMO.

With how he reads the game and actively tries to play from the back I hope he is the one telling John Stones how to play and how to read the game.

Worries me everytime he's near the ball, Seems relaxed on the ball but fills me with fear

Sooner Stones is back the better

I think all our senior CBs have something to teach our youngsters.

Alcaraz on how to bring the ball out from the back and aerial skills, Jags on positioning, how to remove the ball from the attacker without risking a card/penalty plus organising the back line and Distin on keeping in top shape physically.

I'd like to think our nutritionists, physio's, doctors, strength and conditioners can keep the players in shape physically!

Yes but Distin is unusual in that he has been able to play at a good level for a very long time, rarely missing games. Doesn't just come naturally, he is apparently one of the most dedicated off the pitch to his fitness, spending hours in the gym etc.

It is more the mentality to do that, year in year out, that I hope he can teach Stones rather than the specifics of the exercises etc.
