Ideal solution to replace Hietinger as long as Duffy goes out on a season long loan to a Championship team (Wigan / Sheff Weds) and extends his contract by a year.
 
Duffy needs to play next Season, somewhere, I would hope its at Everton, but he will struggle to displace Jags and Distin and is wasting his career in the U21s, he needs to play, somewhere, anywhere.
 
better in the air than what we have and if Martinez has noticed that and looked to improve then that's a really good sign. no massive negatives, but I hope that Duffy does get experience elsewhere and told he will be back in January to prove himself. No massive problem if we have three cbs for some games because we did leave spaces with baines and coleman pushing forward at times and again signs that Martinez isn't just thinking gung ho. worry is only the same as it would be for anyone that its all about partnerships in centre defence and two good players can be better than two great ones if they know each others games.

He's not better in the air than Duffy.

2. Wigan might not be able to afford his wages in the Championship

3. They have no manager; Owen Coyle may offer him a new deal and he might stay

4. He might not want to spend his final years in the Championship

Nah, if they wanted to keep him they would have been negotiating last year. This would be the least exciting signing we could make. Bryan Oviedo will get more games
 

I see ZERO benefit in playing 3 CBs, nothing, why waste 3 players at the back?

Its not like we conceded a shed load of goals last Season, we actually conceded less than United and probably less than most of the League, cant be bothered to work it out. AF?
 
why is everyone so obsessed with re-sale? why would you want to buy a centre back with re-sale anyway? we have two youngsters in duffy and stones and i doubt we're going to go through 10 years without buying another centre back so his age really isn't an issue for me.

He won't be worse than heitinga and it will be done at a profit so i'm fairly happy with that. he seems a good player from when i've seen him, hopefully that's not just because those alongside him are gash. we just gotta hope we can offload heitinga this summer. duffy needs to go out on loan though, re-call him if he's needed

fair point but two decent centre halves in the air wouldn't be a problem. Think Duffy will be sent out to get a half season elsewhere, cos cant see a new manager throwing him in. he should have been getting experience under Moyes but that's the position Martinez is in now, nothing he can do. as long as he is told this is he is still crucial part of the squad then first team football maybe the answer for six months rather than bit parts here.

Not worried about his age. Am worried about his capability.

If Martinez wants to make a statement of intent with his first signing this isn't it.

considering how much possession we had in games though we still were very vulnerable at set pieces, and if one up away from home its not just a negative to put someone in who can allow full backs to break and also mean we don't have everyone back for corners

probably doesn't.. think this one should be allowed under the radar as an okay bit of business that could be done quickly
