Antolin Alcaraz

...it does surprise me when folk give Duffy so much hype and suggest we give him 'playing time'. It would be a real gamble to give somebody like him a run of 6 games against the likes of Benticke and RVP and those clamouring for him to play would be the first to complain when we lose a few on the bounce. If these kids were good enough they'd be playing.
As posted earlier, the report I received from Wigan on Friday evening is that Alcaraz is the real deal and a top drawer centre back.

So we ought to play him against the weaker teams with less problematic strikers

I thought he looked quite a CB last night. Very comftabale on the ball, offered a real sense of calm among the back 4. Was very impressed with initial viewing of him!

Could be excellent business on a free, and I think well see quite a bit of him next season.

Free squad filler who is a decent passer and defender, how anyone can complain really.

You do know how GOT works don't you?

Basically, the brief is to be negative and complain about everything (except players who sign for rival teams).

echoes of most on here, thought he looked quite solid and calm, even when he stood on the ball and near went arse over tit

Duffy will never make it as a top premiership centre back................. there I said it............ vault me on this in a few years.

Also, all of those who were slating Martinez for bringing in a FREE Alcaraz.... I hope you'r choking on your words this morning.

Don't agree with you on Duffy, but the other point you make is good. Would I go so far as to say, if he had been fit, Wigan wouldn't have leaked so many goals and gone down?

Alcaraz is a top player Grouch in my opinion...... Duffy for me is a very good player ( from what i've seen) but to play at the top you need to have something that stands out from the rest... to me, and this is just me, he doesn't have it.... maybe in time it will develop but I just don't see it yet.

He played in a lot of the 4+ scores they let in according to something Brennan put up the other day, so perhaps he didn't help the cause.

Thing is Longy, Franco Baresi could have played in that back line and they still would have got tonked most games due to the poor quality around him. Stats alone don't tell the whole story.

Fair enough mate.

Didn't know that. Being positive, I suppose we shouldn't judge one teams relegation on one player - after all, the reports I'm reading from yesterday are positive. I especially like people saying he's got a decent looking partnership with Jagielka.

I think Duffy will deffo make it in the prem, i hope it is with us. But his passing is the worst out of all the CB'S and it's evident you have to have at least SOME passing ability to be in Martinez' team. He needs game time out on loan.

It's pre-season, I'm not judging him yet, too early yet and he needs time to work with the other defenders. But, I was shocked to see the stick Fellani was getting in the match thread for his attitude???? I think people need to watch the second half again, and watch when Fellani sprints to cover Alcaraz as he was out of position.

As for Duffy, he has never let us down when it mattered.

Didn't see the match thread as i was watching the game, but people where giving Fellaini stick? what are they on. He worked very hard all game, looked committed and didn't stop moving all game. He looked really up for it, same against Vienna.

Alcaraz looks so comfortable on the ball but I haven't seen enough of him to judge him. I would rather have a defender come footballer than a footballer come defender (if that makes sense). I need to know how he is under constant pressure in other words forget his ball skills, can he defend?
