Fits very nicely into Martinez' system and you have to say we didn't miss Jags, which is a huge compliment.

And incidentally the same thing said about Oviedo. Nice to have some depth.

Played OK and looks to be a good player, he was in the right places and won his balls plus he passed the ball pretty good but I'm not entirely convinced by him considering how shaky we were at the back. I'm sure once Barry and Howard are back he'll have a real chance to shine but for now I still favour Jagielka to come straight back in.

hes had a hernia op. hasn't played for a few. its not a huge deal and those saying dreadful signing need to have a word.

we'll need bodies come christmas and after in the run in due to tiredness. plus if people get injured

when leighton baines came he couldn't get past nuno valente. then got a hamstring tear against fulham. Dreadful signing too?

Was impressed with him today, like others have mentioned, looked very composed on the ball, considering a long lay off. Hopefully injuries are a thing of the past, I thought Distin looked a bit dodgy at times, not like him.

He's tremendously highly rated by the Wigan fans. They really do see him as their star man, more important than Kone, the three Mcs, Maloney, anyone. He was their rock at the back. Wigan have had a habit of giving short-term contracts since Martinez came in: there has been a year-on-year ambition to steer the club towards solvency. Don't worry about the fact his contract has run down, the manager of Man Utd came on a free transfer, it doesn't always have a bearing on quality.

I would be happy with it.

Thought he was ace today. Real accomplished performance, exactly the type of centre half to deal with Southampton's style well. Distin was all over the place
