Far from a BFS fan but this decision to absent himself and the first team squad from a meaningless fixture to prepare for the Derby is entirely sensible and to be applauded.

We will still probably lose on Sunday though.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Kevin Mirallas are among a handful of senior players who have made the trip to Cyprus for Everton's Europa League dead rubber against Apollon Limassol tomorrow.

The "Finch Farm Two" - involved in a training ground incident with first team coach Duncan Ferguson last month when they accepted an invitation to leave the training pitch - are part of a shadow squad travelling to Cyprus.

New boss Sam Allardyce has not made the trip, leaving the squad in the hands of Craig Shakespeare and Ferguson.

Earlier this week manager Allardyce said: "It is a dead rubber. I would suggest to the fans that if you are going to spend some money to go and watch them be mindful that I am going to send a team that is not going to be risking too many players who are going to be involved for Liverpool.

"It would be foolish of me to consider getting a player injured in that game and not have him available. I have too many injuries already."

Schneiderlin and Mirallas' presence is another snub. Mirallas was left out of the squad altogether against Huddersfield on Saturday, while Schneiderlin's appearance as a second half substitute was met by a muted reaction from the Goodison crowd.

The only other players with senior experience making the trip are Nikola Vlasic, Davy Klaassen, Mo Besic, Joel Robles and Ademola Lookman.
