Apologise to Southgate

Yeah, it was non stop excitement under Hodgson, Winterbottom, Ramsey (with his “wingless wonders”, Sven, the list seems endless. How excited we were, how entertained. My God the tabloid headlines would say, fecking useless but sooooo exciting.
Because we have had a load of poor managers it doesn't suddenly make Southgate good. I absolutely despise the way we play football given the talent we have out our disposal. It is completely beneath contemp. The Euros are like a big party, everyone else has a great time singing and dancing for hours and hours while we sleep in the corner then we wake up 2 mins before the end and expect credit for being one of the last ones to leave. Our approach completely misses the point of sport/international football which is about competing, expressing talent and providing entertainment and fun. England are just dull and negative. Even if we beat Spain on penalties and lifted the trophy the entire experience would be meaningless from my perspective.

We wer'nt that exciting under Venables and Robson. In Venables defence, he didnt manage a competitive game until Euro96. There were times under Robson where we were very poor.
We didn't have a squad full of great players all playing at clubs that make the champions league semi and play for Madrid/Bayern Munich. How many players from those Venables/Robson teams get into the current squad. Not many.

My grandsons U8 side is for competing, expressing talent and providing entertainment and fun.
Professional football is for winning. Winning well if possible but winning.

1986 squad. Gary Stevens, Trevor Steven, Peter Reid, Gary Linekar, Bryan Robson, John Barnes, Beardsley Waddle to name a few.
1996. Gasgoine, Shearer, G Neville Pearce, Sherringham Adams Fowler, plus others.

Only Rodri and Carvajal are obvious upgrades tbh, everyone else is pretty even at best. I mean their club careers speak for themselves and suggest as such. Jude Bellingham is the one that plays for Real Madrid, not Dani Olmo. Phil Foden is the key player for the most successful manager of all time, not Nico Williams.

Are the Spanish players coached better in a system that suits them thus enabling them to perform better? Yes, certainly.
