Are the fans to blame?

I cannot agree with quite a bit of this. Yesterday was an awful result we know that and the fault lies with FSW team selection. But when the subbings were done we actually were better and fought but by then it was rather late. IT showed that Mina and Richie should have started, what was FSW thinking with his team selection?

Just wanted to point we did give it a good go but that lot were good at fouling and getting away with it, there should have been at least on red but that is now all history. Lets look to the future and hope we make a proper appointment that we can all get behind.

Could any manager have predicted his team would score an OG and then his captain would give a pass to the opponent a minute later to go 0-2?

I have no concerns with not rushing an injured Richy and Mina back (he actually could have done harm to his job by doing the right thing).

The criticism I have is why should he persist with Keane and Coleman? If Mykolenko can start in PL, then surely someone from Scotland should be more probable to fit to the pace of PL (Patterson).

Despite this being a wind-up, these are clearly your true feelings on the matter @chicoazul (being the staunchest defender there is of TD26[c] ), and imo there's more than a grain of truth in this assessment.

Dating back as far as the Goodison cushion throwers of the '70s who weren't adequately entertained, there's been a level of entitlement and expectation which has created a 'well first give us something to shout about' mentality, which turns progressively toxic if the team fail to match the expected levels. The logic of this is 'well we've witnessed success in 69-70/84-87 and expect the best, and so allowing our expectations to drop now will simply normalise the mediocrity that the younger demographic have gotten used to'; ironically, I think this pressure now has the opposite effect.

The reality is that supporting a team isn't a simple exchange, where loyal support means you're deserving of success (or even of any kind of enjoyment or pleasure). We aren't entitled to anything, not top-4 because we have had more periods of success comparatively than others, nor top-6/8/10 because we've spent a fortune and became accustomed to being the 'best of the rest' of the Moyes period.

Failure at board level since Peter Johnson is the primary driver in all of this (including the tone-deaf decision to hire a kopite), let's not forget, but we've also got to look at the cynicism shown by many when elements of the fanbase try to actively change fortunes for the better; whether that be those trying to create a singing section a few years ago, or those more recently behind the '27 years' movement for change.

That is a big yes from me. We could not have predicted going to down but to continue with the team he selected for an hour was stupid, the subbings should have been done sooner and later Gordon should have been rested and Townsend brought on. those changes could have made a difference.

I am a huge fan of you blaming the millennials my friend. Thank you for this respected and accurate contribution.

I think this is the biggest issue. The majority of fans go in with this attitude of that we have been served dross since moyes left etc. So the first sign that it's coming back again everyone jumps on the bandwagon and makes a managers job untenable.

I think all the fans need a reset and have to look at positives. Such as we are playing in the biggest league In the world. We are normally in the top half etc and when things don't go well it needs to be accepted that the league is difficult and bad runs can happen. Ffp rules dictate that we are not allowed to compete with the super 6 currently, noone is. If you don't like that then complain to the Premier league. But if you are happy to keep watching then you have to accept that and also accept that everton will always finish somewhere between 7th and 15th most likely.

But the best chance the club have of building into a better force and occasionally breaking the top 6 is by harmony, consistency in manager and longevity. Unfortunately though not everyone has this kind of vision and toxicity creeps back in far too quickly too often.

Agree that we need consistency in manager and longevity but Benitez was always going to be a toxic appointment and it was going to split the fanbase no matter what, how Moshiri thought it would be a good idea is baffling.
