Arouna Kone

He wouldn't pass another club's medical

.....it's about risk management. For example, if he's allowed to go on a free a club might be willing to take a risk on the dodgy knee. I doubt he would leave without a financial push (Everton paying up part of his contract) and a 2 year offer on comparable wages elsewhere.

Unfortunately not all signings work out and I suspect Kone might see his contract out. It would be an irony if he does have an impact this season and offered a contract extension!!

I'm getting bored with the Kone bashing, it's too easy to do.

The guy has had 10 starts (probably been subbed off in most of them (often for injuries)) and 12 sub appearances (some of which were only for the last couple of minutes of a game) over the last two years. He's managed one goal.

The question for me is can he stay uninjured and get to his full sharpness?
If he can, then he's probably worth keeping due to our lack of other options and our other priories money wise for a replacement
If he can't then we have too many permanently injured players already thanks, though I doubt anyone else would sign an injured player and certainly not for the money he's no doubt on at the moment.

The Ramadan thing makes me rage, surely he would be doing everything in his power to get ready for the new season and to at least attempt to repay some of the wages he received for a year whilst sat on his arse injured, instead he's starving himself for weeks so when the new season comes around he's going to be hopelessly unfit again and will probably get injured early doors because of it. I don't dislike the lad, not his fault he got injured, but he and players like him don't make it easy to support them
He was injured well before he came to us! that's why Wigan got him for 1 million he had been out a season with knee ligament damage playing for Seville!

When we signed him I reckon Martinez's thinking was along the lines of "He'll get me between 5-10 goals a season as a backup striker, I wonder if that Lukaku is available..."

Obviously the injury knackered that up and we'll never know but I think that's how he would have turned out for us if his knee didn't explode.

It's like you were playing Football Manager while writing that post.

Whenever I'm manager of Everton, clubs will not buy Kone unless it's a free transfer and he refuses to move unless I pay him 25k per week for the remainder of the year.

Worth looking back at what Martinez said when he signed him lol

"But probably the biggest strength that Arouna has is that calmness in front of goal, that composure to be a real reference for the team.

"At his age [29], he is ready to take that important role that is going to be needed to break into the team and bring something different to the side."

Kone has played in Belgium, Holland, Spain and Germany before moving to England and Martinez believes that will stand him in good stead as he makes the step up a level.

"Arouna brought a real impact to his debut in the British game [last season]," he told evertontv.
"He had great experiences in Holland and a great transfer to the Spanish league.
"He had a bit of a tough time with his injury but he recovered himself really well to score many goals with Levante.
"His arrival to the Premier League has been a very successful and impressive one.

"To be able to be himself straight away, someone who copes with the physicality of the game but brings a really strong back-to-goal play in the forward position and with real quality finishing in his make-up.

"As a player I would say he is a complete footballer at a really good age.

forgot to mention his knees were knackered other than that a great buy!

I can understand why he was signed as our forwards were rubbish and sold off. But he was also rubbish and Martinez could see even for wigan he missed loads.

He a bit like darron gibson in that you just forget hes there.
