Arouna Kone

Said at the time we signed him he was awful, opinion was generally positive when we signed him though.

Think Martinez wanted to shift Anichebe and Jelavic + sign Kone and a loan so he could generate £6mil+ in transfer funds.

Maybe it was a more of a "sorry what I'm about to do to you" gift then.... I can understand the Alcaraz one as a 4th choice centre back and on a free but Kone has turned out to be an awful buy... maybe he would have scored 5-10 goals for us if he didn't have a really bad first season with injuries but he was never worth £6m.

Totally agree, kone was not even an upgrade on what we already had in Vic or Jellavic. Although 6M is pocket money these days. Probably about the going rate for an average Joe!

What's worrying is Martinez signed him as our new striker. Lukaku was never a thought or possibility at the time, that was a deal that luckily last minute fell on our lap. That first season could of been very different!

Nothing worrying about that. He signed three players who knew his system...two of them for free.

Massively obvious to me...done the same IRL here

Hmmm not sure I agree with that. You can't just sign players who know your system regardless of quality. Both Kone and Alcaraz were never fit to lace there boots in an Everton shirt. Mcarthy is not good because he knows Roberto's system. He's good because he's a a good player.

I can honestly say I don't think either have had any influence on helping the team adapt to a new way of playing. John Stones certainly isn't the player he is due to Alcaraz, just as lukaku isn't due to kone.

Whilst "maybe" understandable signings at the time. Both have been epic fails and 6M could of been used on much better. The fact he's sticking to his guns over Kone is very dissapointing.

anichebe was crap, and if kone hadn't had got that injury he'd have been much better for us.

But hindsight ey?

Let's see how he does this season.

Anichebe has went on to have such a boss career.

Look, I admire all the folk defending him, and I gave him the benefit of the doubt while he was injured - how can you slate someone when they've hardly played?

But I've/we've seen him a few times now, I was there against Stevenage and even for the U21's. I'm sure he's a nice bloke yet from what I've seen (granted he's only played 17 games) we could do with better.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love nothing more than for him to prove me wrong this season, but realistically is that going to happen?

He was past his prime when he joined us.

Now is two years and endless injuries later.

He's a joke. Not his fault, but he is.
