Imagine if we hadn't got Lukaku on loan last season and went the season with Kone / Naismith

Stubbs would have been planning our assault on the Championship playoffs in 2015/2016 season

True but we have to look to the future and we still don't really have a second choice strike worthy of the name.

Ian, you were at it frequently regarding lukaku, yet brushed aside the reasonings for his poor efforts.

Now he has scored a few and somewhat redeemed himself a little, you've moved onto others. It's all you do mate. You were amongst the 1st stating Martinez out back in September.
I have praised Lukaku as much as I've criticised him, I don't think I have ever posted in this thread before a tad little joke on kone's name in the same way people had a mess around with Barkleys name in his thread, Kone had barely kicked a ball for us, then got injured an people wrote him off, I can't remember ever commenting as for Martinez my want for him not to be our manager was instant, he made me look stupid last season which was great as us as fans reaped the benefits, to me this is the type of season I expected under Martinez, he ain't going anywhere so hopefully we get back to challenging for Europe next season, but I can't see it, if my post come across as negative or pessimistic that's because I call it how I see it, there will be people who now think we are back on track after the last few results, for me if we aren't allowed to judge Martinez on a whole season without being called a kneejerker then the same has to be said for a 4 game run. Martinez and his signings are not the answer to our aims.

Can we expect the same pattern then ? 1 season good. 1 season bad? Squad was paper thin and ill equipped to tackle Prem and Europe. No surprise that RS performed better last year without distraction. Its the holy grail for most fans but I for one would rather a good go in the domestic cups and consistent league performances vice a couple of nights out in Rotterdam, Oslo, Turin etc

On that note, do we attract the right calibre of players if not in Europe? Its Catch22. Then we do get into Europe again and have to pay mega bucks to enable the squad to do battle on 2 fronts.

The answer at the end of the day is an uber rich benefactor. So to that end, Kone is best we can hope for !

Alcaraz, Kone and McGeady...

3 players who are no where near good enough and should be replaced come summer. If he doesn't do that, I worry for Roberto's vision on the class of players we need here to fufil our goals.
