a catastrophic knee injury. He's fortunate he can even perform in training at an acceptable level.

Yes.And thats what made the lay off for Barkleys goal even better...he did it from an 'un natural' body position. It would have been forgiveable if he had taken an extra touch but the speed and delicacy of the lay off were important, and he realised this.

Brilliant finish today, and his control and first touch was different class compared to Lukaku.

I've said it from day one, Lukaku has a bad touch, and it's not improving, it's everything in a striker, it's what makes a 20m player a 40m player, and it's generally something you can not teach, you either have it or not.
But so many people keep on saying it'll come,it's really frustrating,in one or two games last season he seemed to be improving. But really it's something you learn in the school yard as a kid,and if it doesn't come naturally maybe it never will.I remember they had to get a specialist trainer in to work with Lennox Lewis with his balance and when he finally got it sorted he went on to greater things.Or maybe he just lacks concentration,I know people will always point to his goal tally, but he could be so much more.

I was not in favour of the Kone transfer. It looked like a huge risk of funds we couldn't afford to throw away, and his record to date was underwhelming to say the least. I saw nothing in his first two seasons with us to suggest that he was any good at all, and have never had anything good to say about him, simply because he has never been of any use.

On Saturday however, he was arguably our best player. He put in an honest shift, embarrassing several others with his work rate. His goal was a very difficult shot to pull off, and the assist for Barkley showed good technique. I was impressed with Kone for the first time. If he continues to play like he did against Watford, I'd be prepared to revise my opinion on his possible future usefulness.

PS: those slating Rom's first touch would do well to remember who gave the assist for Kone's goal, and the manner in which it was done.

Hopefully we'll see a Kone/Lukaku spearhead this season. It could prove to be as effective an attacking combination as the defensive combination of Jagielka/Lescott was.

I don't Kone would ever be fit enough to consistently start a full 90. However if he can bring something different off the bench we might have something. Maybe we'd get back to the everton side of 2 years ago that scored late goals for fun.

Kone has never lacked for effort just confidence so seemed strange he got so much stick. won't turn our form around but I think signs are there he will worry quite a lot of defenders given the chance. certainly decent squad player and maybe more

It was not Roms first touch that was important then, it was him holding the ball up waiting for a runner...Kone was the first to react at speed. Nice lay off from Rom, though.

I am so happy for Arouna Kone , I just watched his after match interview and the lad is buzzing you can see the confidence and happiness in his eyes and smile , Well done Arouna!!!
