Arse-Stoke City

I rewound it. Didn't look malicious but it was dangerous. Ramsay's leg was literally flopping around, looks like he's snapped his shin/knee. Only positive is it hasn't broken through the skin so no immediate risk of infection. Shawcross is devastated. I went to school with him, he's the year below me and he's not a nasty guy

Can't imagine the pain after hearing that then. two types of breaks, but a snap is pretty nasty.

His leg was the other way. It was a very strong challenge but nothing to suggest Shawcross went in to break his leg. He was in proper shock and went off in tears. If he just went in to cause pain, he would've walked off without remorse.

Both young lads too. Especially Ramsey who's a proper talent....Its awful really.

Sounds like it wasn't a compound fracture.

David Bust's foot was literally severed in his incident against Man Utd.

The good thing is at the top of the leg breaks in the femur are easier to repair.

damage/breaks in the small bones of the ankle/feet are much more difficult to repair

as are knee injuries due to the specialised tissues in the joints.

but if its a clean break of the femur - it's a 6 month out job with surgery to pin the bone.

Sometimes you get splintering so that there may be a gap, and in order to ensure the leg is the same length as the other, they take bone graft grind it up then use a support that is wound down so that the callus (bone growth) growths over a suspended "scaffold".

plus about 6 weeks rehab on top.

Basically.

We have the technology. We can rebuild him.

ryan's only 21, maybe just 22 so you can understand his enthusiasm, it'll haunt him as well as ramsay too, no doubt he'll be the first to visit and apologise. Devastating for all concerned, and football!

Exactly. He's gone in tough before and been sent off for it but he's not done a Roy Keane, Viera etc type leg snapper.

Was a crunching tackle and someone got the worst possible outcome.

Just hope its a clean break for Ramsey and he's back in the game sooner rather than later.

Horrible it is.

He should be alright if his knee is intact. Didn't see the challenge so can't be sure there.

That would complicate matters further.... as you said upper leg area.

But as I said if its the femur (long bone of your leg) these are the easiest breaks to deal with since the bone is so long and big.

Actually after the fibrocartilage callus and the resulting matrix... where the bone regrowth occurs. that area will be stronger than the original bone!

So basically - he literally will come back stronger than before....

Oddly Stoke have been playing these past 10 mins like they don't want to win, in fact they look guilty about even drawing. Strange. Obviously the penalty was poetic, and right - but a strange situation.

I think they're all in shock to be fair.

Dont think I've seen any of the players make a tackle after the sending off...

he's got youth on his side so he'll heal quicker in theory! Keane and Viera aside i don't think any footballer goes into a tackle intending to seriously hurt their fellow professionals although maybe now they'll sit up and think before they rush into it! Only a few weeks ago a nasty tackle ended felli's season, these are the stars of the future suffering!
