What team/formation do you suggest?

On their day, both players are excellent at their job. Silva has been asking Gana to be more offensive, this is not what he does best. He is excellent at breaking up play but, not great at going forward. Schneids is/was better at taking the ball forward but since koeman and sam he has become a crab.

not too sure what we can do until Gomes comes in.

Davies likes to play forward but cannot pass!

Feels like Silva needed to get decoure or Carvalho to suit his system but failed.

At the moment the 3 centre mids (5-3-2/3-5-2) is out cause we don't have the right combination of CBs

There is no left footed CB in the squad, which imo is essential if your going to go with three.
And you they must be quick and better than good with their feet.
I would be throwing good cash at Nathan Ake (valued at 15 on transfermarket and might get for 25) at least to give the coach more options.

So it gets down to either 4 at the back and either a flat four or diamond in midfield.
We don't really have the quality of wingers and strikers that would take us anywhere using a flat four.
So the diamond seems logical system to go with and its not a bad place to start building from

The diamond is less rigid than you'd find in other formations in terms of not confining a player to a certain position.
For eg, a returning Vlasic could fit effectively into a number of places as back-up, or to where players hadn't cemented a position.

I'd reckon to get the best out of Scneiderlin you have to make his role straightforward.
The DM position in a 4-2-3-1 is a difficult and complex beast to master and relies a lot on what others are doing; your not just playing your game, your playing theirs as well.
At the bottom of the diamond the task is more simplified.
You have to defend the ball in the air in that position so that rules Gana out..

Depending on game plan you'd have to determine who are the strikers/forwards (2).
If you play to the counter I'd be going Richarlison.
Walcott's for me is not a midfielder in a diamond because he doesn't work hard enough in defence. I can't see him running box to box.
But may be effective up front partnering Rico. I'd question whether he's a good 'out' to go for in a counter transition though.
(Mahrez was a genius in that role)

I'd go with Tosun OR DCL if not playing the counter. But unsure of best partner. Vlasic could possibly be an option next season.

Anyway, apologies for long winded answer
Options for midfield in a diamond aren't that bad
bottom - scneiderlin
left - bernard, rico, dowell
right - davies, gana, gomes, sig
top - sig, bernard, gomes, dowell

As long as the L,R and Top work their....socks off as should be the Everton way, we have a much better chance with this than the current S.
And just don't thin we have the squad for anything else.
Whatever Silva does though, the way we play has to change.

Ambition from the Manager in his team selection
Performance from the players...attack not backwards
Result don,t care...

Ayyyy?

Not a single Everton player gets in that Arsenal team (I'd argue Pickford but I know the general consensus would disagree). We have a poorer squad and are away from home to a team who we haven't beat at their place for over 20 years. Thats a bit unrealistic to use this as a measure for how much progress we have made.

I think of this game as almost a free hit, I don't expect anything so I want us to have a go to try and win as oppose to just not lose. I think Silva will do that.

We have spent a lot of money and we do have a good side who were missing Richarlison. I'm not being funny, but we just failed to beat Huddersfield and West Ham at home. We need to start getting results and Arsenal are not as good as you think. if you saw the West Ham game at the Emirates you would see that Arsenal should have lost if West ham were more clinical. We need to start going to places like this and playing to win and believe it too.

They are not that good at all, they are some way off the other top 5 teams and Everton need to sort it out and stop being so fragile. Go and win a game away to the top 6. I believe we have an eleven good enough to do that tomorrow.
