Think you guys may be taking me a little seriously! I meant call shenanigans as not believing me as I only said I didn't previously like the picture after finding out is was done by a monkey...
Anyway, at the risk of dragging this thread back on topic, I'd like to talk about what you said regarding not emulating others, and expand a bit on my previous post on the matter.. Once you find out what others are doing, you can better appreciate what's being done (if that doesn't sound too obvious) or at hhe very least appreciate the technique required.
Have a listen to this:
A year ago I would have hated this, but as I've got more into my bass playing, and music in general, I've started hearing and appreciating things I wasn't aware of before and have more of a general sense of what's going on, albeit still very limited. Now I love it. I got the chance to see these guys give a clinic, and to see it live was a real eye opener. One thing they said was everything they played was going to be in the context of the blues. What they played sounded nothing like, so in the Q&A I asked them how it could be considered blues. When they stripped everything but the root chords away, there hidden underneath it all was a very simple 12-bar blues progression.
Sorry if off topic. I do like a lot of Art but am largely ignorant. Being self indulgent, I grabbed the chance to talk about something I know at least a little bit about.Love this type of stuff when in the right mood. Sounds rather like Weather Report or Return to forever. With a big nod to Miles Davis's fusión work. You can hear the Ornette Coleman influence and even Mingus.
I never thought I'd think twice about saying yes when someone asked to buy something I'd painted or, in this case, drawn, but....
Today's sitter for Portrait Artist of the Week was Robert Rinder. I was feeling quite low after watching the end of Howard's Way, but halfway through Sky's four hour Facebook live session I managed to get a photo that summed up the way the artist and sitter bounced off each other, gridded it up and sketched it on an A3 sized OSB (Oriented Strand Board). I meant to paint it but I just kept going and, eventually happy with it, sprayed it with a fixative (my wife's hairspray) so the graphite wouldn't rub off.
I posted a photo of it on Instagram and, judging by the likes it was getting, very soon realized it was popular. Tonight I checked my Instagram and someone asked if I would sell it. I was gobsmacked as no one had ever asked to buy anything of mine, even though I only started last year. I checked out her Instagram account and could tell she was a big Judge Rinder fan, judging by her photos. Then came the photo that pulled me up. She was in the RS tunnel touching the 'This is Anfield' sign. More photos suggested she wasn't a visitor to Liverpool but a Scouser and a red.
So, what would you do if it was you?
Turns out she's a friend of Rob Rinder, he loves my drawing and she wants to buy it for him. I've asked £50 for it.I never thought I'd think twice about saying yes when someone asked to buy something I'd painted or, in this case, drawn, but....

This example of stating the bleeding obvious was brought to you by a man who hasn't had enough coffee yet.
Up there with Gerald Scarfe...both born 1936I like Ralph steadman. He's local as well (a wool but close enough).

Although I sold this, and it arrived at its first destination on Saturday, the buyer hasn't collected it from the third party address yet and I'm getting twitchy. I won't be able to settle until she's seen it and liked it as much as she did in the photo.
