I love comic book art, thats what I have most of (hence my avatar) but, I l also really like stuff by David Thorpe. It's a collage using tissue paper but he gets great effect.
Unfortunately, the Saatchi brothers bought it all up! He also did album covers for a band called the Engineers which are quite cool.

Great photos for monochrome painting. I'm getting into ink drawing and painting, using only black ink. There's more to it than I thought, like tap water isn't very good for diluting ink, unless you have quite soft water, so will be using distilled water instead.

I'm going to try to scratch an itch that's been bugging me for years....

A long ime ago, around 2002/3, I went to see an exhibition of dutch renaissance painters in Leeds. It focussecd, as I seem to remember, on the lesser known (read: not as good/popular) painters as the gallery wasn't huge, and that Joseph Wright painting has just brought back the itch.

There was a painting, about (as I remember it) 2ish metres tall by about 1ish metres wide called something like 'noise at the gate' or soemthing like that. It had at it's centre a lantern being held as the focal point of light and around it curiois/alarmed faces looking out at you as if they'd heard a noise and were looking into the gloom. The light effect was reminiscent of that Wright painting.

And that's abiout all the details I can remember. I have no idea who painted it, and have been asking around and trawling online for years to find it. I want it as I think it would make a great print to have in the entrance to my flat, as you open the door.

If anyone can help going on so little, then a) you're a genius, and b) thanks.

If not, thanks anyway, and enjoy the rest of the thread!!
