I studied fine art at Uni, had a few bits exhibited at our local museum - wanted to be a curator and ended up a graphic designer.

Went to Rome last week, Raphael, Michelangelo, Bernini and Caravaggio everywhere - loved it.

Have plenty of photos if it's of interest to anyone else!
There's an interesting YouTube video of a BBC feature where David Hockney explains how portrait painting suddenly became more 'photographic' around the mid 15th century. It's worth a look even if you're not into art.

I've done a few oil paintings and sketches with charcoal. Landscapes mainly, from photos I've taken. No formal training so i know none of the fancy terms, I just draw what I see.

Having said that, my latest painting is dated 1998 .... I've been a bit distracted.

I appreciate the technical ability to reproduce light and shade and colour tone accurately in various media or using various techniques. Cant be having splodges of paint being called art simply because someone went to art school to learn the phrases to describe their spilled paint or unmade bed as art.

Define what you mean by ‘art’.
Well I meant painting and drawing really because it's what I'm interested in and thought it would be good to bounce ideas around. Having said that, a friend of mine told me yesterday about his daughter's boyfriend who does nail and string art. Apparently he's got an exhibition in London soon. If you zoom in you'll see it's sketch covered in a network of criss-crossed string attached to nails. 7083170832
