Considering free-sharing their work takes away from the subscription-based model, I disagree entirely that they get paid "regardless".

Oh so it's a commission based scheme? Risky.

Just seen "American" in your name, so it'll be like USA's waiter/waitress policy where they heavily rely on tips whilst getting paid buttons.

They get paid a salary and a pretty decent one for the industry too by all accounts. But obviously that's contingent on them having subscribers to fund it...

It's a bit like taping a local bands album then wondering why they never made a second one.

It's a bit like, if people would rather not pay, and put up with free advertised news sources - then it won't work and they will move to the next news corp that will pay them more.

Yet, people are paying for it. So the model clearly works. It's some of the best overall writing on all the teams I follow that I've ever seen. Taking someone's work for free, when it has a price on it, endangers their job. It's easy to say "just go get another job" when it's not your work and your livelihood at stake.

Yes, I saw it had 600k subscribers mostly USA based. Different markets.

The articles that I've seen posted look quite polished and well researched not clickbait garbage you're usually served up with the British media, I'll never pay for it myself and would be surprised if this model lasts at all but hats off to them they are doing it properly and at least trying.

Yes, but you overlook the point that they get paid pretty well when tips are added. Far more than they would make in the UK. I know waiters/bar staff who earn six figures!

On behalf of writers everywhere, thanks a lot.
I buy newspapers, not every day but as I want to, left wing & right wing to get a balanced view. If I subscribe to an online site surely I only get one point of view and I don't like the idea of signing up for a period of time either. Having said that I'm old and understand that younger people think very differently to me!

That's fine mate. You're still paying for your news and getting eyes on the adverts that their advertisers pay for. It's people getting around a pay wall cos they don;'t want to pay but still want the content that annoys me.
