Jagielka had a good partnership with Distan, I think just playing with another experienced head is a lot of it. Both at that Goldern age, both still physically strong and able to deal with the league and they have the know how to help them avaoid the situations in the first place

Says it all when he's hurling himself into diving blocks even when we're 2-0 up. Contrast this to some of the back turning, leg dangling, ball jumping, cowardly 'defending' we've seen over the last three seasons. It's these fine margins that make the difference between a ball going straight back out because the defender has commuted to the block, or a ball deflecting past a keeper due to a half hearted effort.

Absolutely right. Some of it last season was rank unacceptable.

Such a shame we couldn't pair Stones and Williams.

I know Gana, and Lukaku took most of the headlines last night but I thought Ashley was immense. He just made it look so easy. Calm. Unflustered. A great signing.

Just watching the game back. Incredible organisation skills at the back, on top of calmly handling and reading difficult situations. Should have signed him a few years back. Hopefully has a few years left in him.
