We reeeeaaaallly need some defensive signings in the summer. Mori and Coleman (Coleman maybe even longer) out for the season, Williams out for possibly a few games. It is showing some glaring issues

I think he's poor, tbh. I'd rather see Holgate in there. We definitely need an upgrade from him in the summer.

Terrible pace, not the leader I thought he'd be. Just doesn't look right in the heart of that defence. He looks like he causes a lot of confusion to me.

Wednesday night proved what an outstanding defender he can be.
Whilst he hasn't looked great in some games this season, he's been the only constant in a consistently changing backline
Since the season started, he's had Stek then Robles then Stek then Robes in goal.
He's been in a back three / four
Right sided CB / Left sided CB
Jags / Holgate / Pennington / Jagielka next to him
Coleman / Holgate / McCarthy at RB / RWB
I think there is certainly an argument for mitigating circumstances!

very happy with that. The price could have been better on Stones, but I suppose Williams is a steal at £12M...swings and roundabouts.

When williams plays half a dozen games for us mate! everyone will go collectively "ahhhh! So THATs what a captain does?!!!"

We haven't had a player with a pair of cajones as captain since Dave Watson. Williams will take care of that absence.

Seems to have been looking for another one to come in though mate.

Williams for me should be the corenerstone of the whole defence. He gets his place automatically and the others compete with each other to partner him.

I actually think he tried to head it. He didn't get down fast enough and the ball glanced off his head onto his arm. Unless he's trying to impersonate Lizzie Yarnold his arms weren't going to be anywhere else. It was just unfortunate. Had he not tried to block it and Shaw scored, what's the odds he would have been criticised anyway.
