2017/18 Ashley Williams

Was alright today but he plays right on the edge which scares me. When he's good he's good, but the nagging sense of an error is always there...

Looks better without Keane. Which is worrying. What has happened to our expensive signing?

Williams looks better with a bit of pace next to him - as he can concentrate solely on defending.

Keane isn't slow, but he's not rapid. Holgate has that extra pace and the added bonus of being very good on the ball.

Yup, agree centre backs are best judged as part of a unit. It's a tough balance to achieve. For years Jags and Lescott / Distin were reliable and effective. A declining Jags and a steady rosta of new players hasn't unearthed the future yet.

Happy if we've found a good combination for the season, but hopefully Sam looks to forge something longer lasting. Age being against Williams.

Genuinely happy Williams has turned his performances around. I've given him tons of stick this season but credit where it's due.

On the balance of the season Williams has been utterly shambolic. Against West Ham and Huddersfield he looked fine (who wouldn't?), and yesterday he didn't appear to be too troubled as mostly Liverpool attacked thru Mane or Salah who were marked by Martina and Kenny, with Holgate mostly getting important interceptions in. Williams obviously played his part too, but he could have maybe done a little more for their goal, even though it was a fine strike.
