He's not even as good as Besic...

I admit that whenever I have seen him play in previous competitions I have never been impressed.
However, I assume that he is not being bought on the basis of what he does in a competition every couple of years, but for his club week in and week out.
I would also say that the Belgian team consistently underperform considering the talent available. Wilmots must be one very poor manager and that may have an impact on how Witsel acquits himself.

I must admit that I do not know anything about his club form in the last couple of seasons.

Mate having seen a fair bit of Witsel, Koeman will have earmarked a midfield partner for him whose game compliments each other, thats the way to get the best out of him, he partnered up mainly with Garcia (the old Benfica/City player) at Zenit who played that more defensive role and allowed Witsel to roam a bit more, and it worked a treat, can see a similarly big physical player playing along side him - which we honestly don't have right now.

Honestly do not see McCarthy and Witsel gelling that well together and would bet the house on us bringing another centre mid in with more presence/physicality about them

The silence on these upcoming deals is deafening but in an absolutely fantastic way.

Moshiri & his team are pure & simple football people & that gives us an edge if you ask me. They know how these deals work & how they can be structured.

If you want my opinion on this Witsel transfer (not that you would), the fee & money side of things were concluded with Zenit 10 days ago. The delay has revolved around the players post Euro holiday, final salary negotiations & discussions with Koeman himself.

We are coming in under the radar on players early now - don't be fooled by the time transfers take to finally reach conclusion. We (the new Everton board) are a completely different animal.

What we (Koeman) wants, we will get provided it's not beyond the realms of reason.

Expect some more real highs soon, but perhaps a couple of ball aching lows before the window shuts.

If you look at how west ham go about making signings compared to your theory is 2 completely different ways.
You have David Gold & Sullivan telling the world and his wife that they are in for this player and that player left right and centre, then you have sullivans virgin son wanting to be loved letting people know the in's and outs of there transfer dealings.
So far this summer they have looked abit silly in there search for a striker as a host of bids have been turned down etc and they may get there fans hopes up "were getting batsuayi/lakazette etc" and end up with Carroll again, that can become demoralising.

But then again........what happens if this mata deal isnt on, and we end up resigning Ossie

Yeah, i think we dont need all of them! McCarthy is probably the one that stands out then possibly Barry & Besic.
I cant see him selling Cleverley as he has only been here a year
