Transfer Rumour Axel Witsel

The silence on these upcoming deals is deafening but in an absolutely fantastic way.

Moshiri & his team are pure & simple football people & that gives us an edge if you ask me. They know how these deals work & how they can be structured.

If you want my opinion on this Witsel transfer (not that you would), the fee & money side of things were concluded with Zenit 10 days ago. The delay has revolved around the players post Euro holiday, final salary negotiations & discussions with Koeman himself.

We are coming in under the radar on players early now - don't be fooled by the time transfers take to finally reach conclusion. We (the new Everton board) are a completely different animal.

What we (Koeman) wants, we will get provided it's not beyond the realms of reason.

Expect some more real highs soon, but perhaps a couple of ball aching lows before the window shuts.

Our club is travelling in a new direction now.

Bizarrely this forum seems to handle the latter of these scenarios far better than the former. Debilitating semi final loss? Shrug of the shoulders, always next season. Rumours of a good player signing? Complete meltdown.

Think everyones getting abit carried away with witsel here.
Average player with lazy tendancies, isnt great when the chips are down.
30 million is alot of money for a player of his standard! 15-20million is more his value

he'll bring a presence to our midfield mate that hasn't been there in the last few years.

Strong, good on the ball, hard in the tackle

Mate having seen a fair bit of Witsel, Koeman will have earmarked a midfield partner for him whose game compliments each other, thats the way to get the best out of him, he partnered up mainly with Garcia (the old Benfica/City player) at Zenit who played that more defensive role and allowed Witsel to roam a bit more, and it worked a treat, can see a similarly big physical player playing along side him - which we honestly don't have right now.

Honestly do not see McCarthy and Witsel gelling that well together and would bet the house on us bringing another centre mid in with more presence/physicality about them

Funny innit, we're finding fault in world class players that we're potentially 'in' for and that are head & shoulders above a majority of what we have...and not so long ago we actively pursued Darren Fletcher et al.

Groovy eh.

It's almost like Chas & Dave wrote it specifically for us...

Can I just suggest something to everybody that is scared we will lose out on Mata and Witsel ?

Normally the bigger the player, the bigger/longer/tougher the negotiations are. Even free agents are tough to deal with, teams offering bonuses, bigger pay packets as you save on the transfer fee, if we get in the top four you get X amount of bonuses, agents wanting more money than they would usually receive in a transfer. We must bear in mind that signing these players to 4 or 5 year deals is a commitment costing us millions, we must be sure that the finer details are double checked.

If we are to sign big names, we must be patient and wait for the official announcement, some targets we will miss out on because we are not chasing titles yet. The amount of money floating around the league means that one loophole could cost us dearly...
