In a sense Lukaku is the same. Not arsed if we are going to make top 4 even the title.
Lukaku isn't. Signed for Chelsea for the massive step up and signed here for love of the club. He wants top level football not money.
As long as these mercenaries have bonuses written into their deals for top 4 finishes and trophies we should all be happy.

Too many is a bad thing ala qpr but if we only sign one or two like witsel then means nothing. Just adds a bit of quality to the team.

Witsel is a mercenary by definition hence this and last moves for money. Not arsed if he turns up here but he certainly ain't playing for the badge so to speak
In fairness though Ash, very few of them do anymore mate! I think those were gine long ago, we just cling to the dream! Whenever good players did stay with their club, their motives were always questioned? Players like Stev Bull, Matt Le Tissier, Steven Gerard are notable because they did stay put, but few ever do!

I just mean there is a difference between a player going for ambition and one going for money. Witsel could have played for any champions league club yet went for the money in Russia. Same as all these Chinese league signings, putting money (not exactly wrong to do) over personal ambition.

I'd feel that to a certain extent any top player we sign right now is the same boat, moving to a mid table team must mean there is attraction beyond the club. We may get one or two like mata who wants to play for koeman but others will see the pound signs.

..Milan Badelj being named as possible back up target if Witsel deal doesn't materialise.
Maybe both. By all accounts witsel deal is 'done' to be finalised on his return from holiday. What cannot be denied is that koeman has looked at the spine of our team and doesn't like what he sees. Hence perceived interest in schmichel, koulibaly, witsel, Badelj and mata as our number 10.

Obviously I'd be made up if we got this 'deal' over the line. But not too sure how good this lad is to be honest. I've seen him on TV in Europa League games and for Belgium in recent matches. Sometimes looks good but sometimes he's not caught the eye either. But then I look at our squad (midfield wise) and I'd have to say he'd be an improvement on McCartney and/or Cleverley surely.

Not true. Aguero toure silva to name 3 are the exact opposite. All could get paid so much more elsewhere but stayed at city all this time. And their wages there are lower than you would expect them to be.

Toure is on £200k+ a week.

Has anyone come in with a serious offer for those at any stage? Toure is on a ridiculous wage is he not? Like 300k? I reckon the likes of Aguero and Silva would have been getting itchy feet had Pep not been coming.

It might be a lot easier next year when we have money and Europe to offer.

Not wanting to be negative but making the top 6 is going to be very hard. I wouldnt assume it will just happen. Alot of other clubs are spedding money aswell. We will have to fight for every point.

I think the likes of conte and guardiola will be shocked at how hard the epl is. An its going to get even harder. We have the likes of palace looking to buy 25mil players. The epl is going to swallow up alot of top players
