Transfer Rumour Axel Witsel

I'm not particularly interested in politics but I'm absolutely baffled that Trump is in serious contention to become president of the US. I mean seriously, I can't understand how that's happened. It's like appointing Jeremy Clarkson as prime minister. Might be a laugh to begin with but ultimately he's going to destroy your country.

Everton’s Record Offer “Agreed”, by GrandOldTeam

Everton have agreed a record £30m deal for Axel Witsel according to reports.

Everton are also said to be ready to meet his massive wage demands of more than £100,000 a week.

“I want to leave Zenit,” Witsel told Italian TV station Mediaset Premium last week.

“My future may be in Italy or England.

“It does not matter if I go to Serie A or the Premier League, if they’re a great club.”

...this is how the thread was opened on 1st July after rumours had already been circulating and the signing looked imminent. It's now 31st July and the season starts in a couple of weeks. I'm assuming the interest was genuine and it might still happen but we clearly haven't been able to convince either the player or his club.

I could almost copy and paste this on the Carvalho and Koulibaly threads.

Juventus have made their 'final' offer of €20 million plus €2m bonuses for Witsel and will look elsewhere if rejected.

Still €8 million short of our offer, so looking good.

Need this 100% resolved within the next few days mate, atm rightly or wrongly it is making us look very much a small club - basically waiting until all other options for the lad have fallen through before he wil join us, as a statement signing it will have lost a massive amount of the impact it was desired to have now and can guarantee that is the wya it will be percieved by a lot of the fans and reported by nearly all the meida, which in essence backs up what i am saying about losing any impact we obviously intended to make

Juventus are wasting everyone's time here including us. If they really want Witsel pay up the €30m. Much like Chelsea on Lukaku. Moshiri asked for £75m they bid 57.

I do find it odd that they won't go any higher than that…but their loss would be our gain I'm sure.

Appreciate the info, but we're definitely into 'I'll believe it when I see it territory' now.

How is it looking good for us mate when it seems clear the player will only come here as a last resort. Not trying to be Nostradamus here, but there is a good chance he looks to leave next Summer anyway.

Overpaying for a footballer that has us on the bottom of his list of destinations, and will most probably look to move on at the first opportunity is hardly reason to celebrate this?

I agree the sooner it is completed the better, but to beat Juventus to a player they identified as a key target is going to be a major victory however long it has taken to achieve.

As things stand no reason for it not to happen.

I'm beginning to think Everton is the reason all these signings are sensibly delayed, not the players. They're hanging on us making a big sale, before we can really make the big wages a possibility under ffp. Once Stones or Lukaku is on his way then these will be wrapped up quickly.

Thing is whilst i agree mate, Moshiri has clearly made this a major priority and wanted it to send a signal, if/when he finally signs it will be percieved and reported not as us beating Juve/Napoli/Cheslea to a player, but will widely be reported that the other teams didn't really want him that much and that he didn't really want to come to us but we where the last resort for him.

even the players 'relatively' low fee of 30m euros (if correct) will support that fact given that many more players will be moving around this league for fees far more substantial than this.

The story will be reported almost as a footnote at best really - not sure what we could have done differently in this, but it will i am certain have lost any impact it was desgined to have and create more of a ripple in the media no more

As I've stated many times in recent days if he doesn't want to join us all he needs to do is make that statement and it makes Juve's job easier. The fact is he hasn't made that statement.

We're hardly his last choice either, he and his team will have had countless offers from other clubs which will have not been persued.

If that last paragraph is correct then I am happy to stand corrected.

Thing is mate, for what this signing was meant to be, ie a statement one, what really has happened int he deal is actually not as important as how the deal will be reported and percieved, and it ha slost nearly all impact it will have made

Carvalho would have an impact - as their has been relatively little press about it and a lot of articles saying about how he is on the radar of massive clubs etc

Koulibaly would send a HUGE statement as we wou;ld have shown we can outmuscle financially Chelsea for a player and the cost would leave that in no doubt

Witsel due to the lenght of time it has taken, and the fact it isnt a massive fee involved will just have lost any sense of making that statement
