Transfer Rumour Axel Witsel

to be honest, he's doing exactly what I would do in a commercial relationship. Deadline is end of August, my value is only going to increase the closer I get to the deadline.

As much as I'd love him to have signed already, that's the truth.

That's the truth until he busts his knee in a Russian League game and his value turns to nothing. It's just taken so much time. Can't remember another situation like this one.

But that's a reflection of the folly of having the window close after the season starts - I don't blame him one iota for looking after himself first. It's purely a commercial relationship, an exchange of services for payment. Occasionally we still get local lads (Barkley as an example) who play for the love of the shirt - the rest it's pure commerce.

Do you think Zenith are a big time club? To paraphrase Mrs Merton, what do you think he saw in mega-rich-multi-million-euro-contract Zenit when he agreed to take himself off into the depths of Russia to play his football?

This is where I get annoyed with footie players (thick!). Player A (Witsel) has previously moved to a club because of promises of what the club/league is going to do, but it doesn't work out. He then faces a choice of clubs, one that isn't going to bid the numbers and doesn't actually have you as a priority (as per transfer rumours of other players), or the other that is in the richest league and actually really really wants you!

@The Esk of all the players you have linked us with, this one for me is lowest on the scale. Wouldn't say no, but not even sure anymore if it does actually send a statement of intent, unlike others like Mata, WC and KK etc?

That's what 30 years of mismanagement does to you. To think we was actually called the Mersey millionaires at one point. Before my time like. Wish I could see half the stuff me arl fellas seen.

Footballers wives seem to be thicker mate.

Seems that way, but his seems nice so she can have her work leave in Milan, but the nitty gritty is at Goodison Park!

He's a one man show and represents a number of leading footballers. Estimated earnings last year (before cuts from transfer fees) in excess of $28 million. let's just say he's very influential.

Of course this year is going to be a bumper year for him.

Whilst I accept that players need representing it seems crazy that one person can take so much out of the game of football.
Stands to make upward of 16m out of Pogba

Cheers. Be interesting to see if we wait this one out and play the game. I suppose it depends on how much we want him and whether we as a club are prepared to wait until the end of the window. I feel he's waiting for that better deal from another club.
He's far from worth waiting for. If he's top class do you think he'd have spent his whole playing career in Belgium, Portugal and Russia? We should have ended our interest in him weeks ago! In my view this situation is a complete joke. Move on.

More reports out of Italia that Juve aren't really that keen.

Again, I can't blame him for hanging out to see if something will materialise there, because it's friggen Juventus. But now that it's looking increasingly likely that it won't pan out for him there, and with the Pogba deal nearing completion, I really wouldn't be surprised if he signs with us next week.

Personally, I don't begrudge him or the club at all for it taking longer than we thought. Especially if the outcome is good.

I'm not really getting why people think we look small time for waiting on him. This lad is waiting to see if JUVENTUS will put in a bid. So to go with the whole hot girl analogy but from his point of view it's more like we're super hot and really keen and he's well up for it and has even met up with us for a drink a couple of times but a friend of a friend is telling him Mila Kunis is also interested and is 50/50 to be in touch in the next few weeks so he shouldn't make any other commitments yet.
