This is a rhetorical question, but why do people keep dogs and kids ( particularly dogs like that) together,

Why would you want to wn a dog like that though ? I don't understand it.....

I own a staffie, researched the breed fully because we had a young child when we bought her from a breeder (she is KC registered and cost £400 7 years ago). As a breed even the KC breed standard states how reliable these dogs are with humans (less so with other dogs, which is why she is always on a lead outside on walks). I do not regret getting her for a second and there are no other dog I would trust as much with a child, I would still never leave her or any other dog unaccompanied with a young child.

Wasn't a pop ... Just don't understand why anybody would want a dog which carries the stigma.... No smoke and all that

Dogs have been used in the past to look after kids, even dogs that are allegedly dangerous. I suspect it's more about people not understanding the temperaments of alpha, beta, and omega type dogs of the same breed as well.

You'll have instances where dogs will be fiercely protective of children they have been brought up with, and show no signs of aggression at all.

I don't think there is a problem bringing up children with dogs, again it's been this way for thousands of years. The problems lie with owners who don't recognise a dog is an animal, and it won't reason like a human will. Having said that children are statistically infinitely at more risk from their parents and relatives than they are from dogs.
