Bigloco

Player Valuation: £2.5m
From ESPN.COM: "Sunderland striker Darren Bent, Manchester City winger Adam Johnson and Everton defender Leighton Baines are also believed to have missed out."

I was hoping to see some familiar faces in this year's world cup...no Arteta...no Saha....no one on the English side.

The US could use Baines at left back, I wonder how fast he could become a US citizen?

This is good for Everton's preparations next season. Although the profile of the club could have done with having at least on player on the plane for England.

Let's face it, it's unlikely Warnock will get any minutes in the tournament.

englands loss and our gain as far as im concerned.

feel sorry for the lad as imo he has been the best and most consistant left back in the country this season.

green , warnock , upson , caragher , king , swp , heskey ....theres 7 big question marks already imo .
can there fitness be relied on in some cases ?
(ferdinand ,both coles ,barry , and lennon are also coming back from long term knocks )
and/or what have these players done this past season to merit a place in a world cup team ?

baines and johnson would have been in if i had my way.

Since I'm currently unemployed and preparing to spend much of June watching the world cup, I was hoping to maximize my Everton team exposure!

On a good note, I won't have to see him go head to head with Donovan in the first game, assuming he would have played. Hopefully LD can reproduce his effort vs A Cole and Chelsea back in Feb.

thinking about it, that was great game, i'd love to rewatch that.

It's official - Capello is a lair.

"Reputation means nothing, I will pick my squads based on club form"

Really?!

Upson over Dawson? Heskey over Bent? Carrick over Parker? SWP over Johnson?

I agree Baines didn't exactly cover himself in glory against Mexico, but did that really justify him getting the boot? Warnock never played a single minute over the three friendlys he was on the bench for yet he gets the nod?! If he was dropped over his "homesick" comments last week then all I can say is he well and truly shot himself in the foot there.

That said, my respect for Capello has dropped significantly and part of me now really wants them to fail miserably.

Also, Gareth Barry can just [Poor language removed] right off. Overrated [Poor language removed].

How Upson is rated as an international standard player is totally lost on me as I just can not see it.

And as per usual going on first impressions on the team it is the same as the press usually pick.

It's so similar to the squad that failed in the last tournament. I honestly can't see them passing the quarters.

England's 23-man squad for the World Cup finals:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham).

Defenders: Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Ledley King (Tottenham), John Terry (Chelsea), Matthew Upson (West Ham), Stephen Warnock (Aston Villa).

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), James Milner (Aston Villa), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City).

Forwards: Peter Crouch (Tottenham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).

I can't understand how any of the one's in bold have made it into the final squad none of have them have had good season, you could even throw Ferdinand and Gerrard into that bracket as well.

So much for Capello only picking form players, gone with what the press have wanted.

Fail in the last 16.

Baines is clearly a better left back than Warnock anyway - how does Capello think he'd fair any better?!

At least none of our lads will be up for the inevitable scapegoating come the first week in July.

Capello has pussed out with that selection if you ask me. Gone for the easy choices all over the park.
