Baines: We have no chemistry

There is nothing in that piece that any senior player wouldn't say after another disappointing loss during another disappointing season.

So much drama.

Is Baines "any senior player?" I've never heard him speak to media like this, ever.

Eto'o knew. He had to. Distin probably knew too.

Man, for Jags to say we didn't take enough chances when he, a CB, had by far and a way the best shot...

In my opinion, behind Martinez's pleasant public persona resides a much steelier individual; one who brooks no dissent. I would not go so far as to say Martinez is vindictive, but I suspect Leighton might have to endure a spell in Coventry.

So add Baines to the fed up with martinez camp along with Mirallas, Jags, Rom and Pienaar. Tributes to Distin and Eto'o both always in our thoughts.
This is a genuine question as I must have missed the boat on this one. What did Eto supposedly say about Martinez?

He's spot on with what he says.

The interview probably won't go down well with the coaching staff, but he's not blaming them directly, if anything, he's saying it's down to the players.

Proper pro and dead honest is Leighton.

This. So refreshing to see some honesty for once, rather than all this sugar coating nonsense. I'd honestly respect Martinez more if he came out and said things how they were like this.

Bainsey is right though, for whatever reason, the players just don't seem to have any chemistry. Remember Baines and Pienaar interchanging seamlessly, reading each others' mind, we've had nothing like that in a very long time.

I'd imagine L B would be glad to get clear of the utter shambles!

Our back 4 at the start of the 13/14 season knew when to cover when to bomb forward and when to hold back. With Barry and McCarthy covering this allowed ourfull backs to bomb forward

Nothing like that now. Its very disjointed

He was miffed that in his Everton supporting life, he thought this was the best squad, that lead him to believe results should/would be better. He was quoted as saying...

''The way things are going, I doubt they'll of won any more than 21 games over a 68 game period, which would be woeful give the squad he's been afforded''

His foresight was astounding.

I said this in another thread mate. That first season we had the back half of a Moyes team with the forward play of Martinez and it worked. Why he felt the need to move completely to his own system when we came so close to 4th with a worse squad is beyond me. I get that he tried to give it a go but it's almost 2 seasons on now and it's not got any better. If anything it's making us worse and suspect to major implosions that cost us games from winning positions

Well...he was pretty out of form. Think he wanted to play off a striker...but he was played mostly in wider positions. He would tend to drift deep to get the ball and come in more narrow, which left us unbalanced. I guess for me it came down to a few things, based on the evidence that is available. 1. He was not playing well in a wide role. 2. He would have replaced Ross in the middle. 3. I doubt Ross was ever going to be benched for a 33 year old. 4. Come January it was apparent that we were going nowhere in the league and dumped his wages.

At the end of the day it's the managers job to ensure the team gel and understand each other on the pitch. I'd say it's a swipe right at Martinez without full out saying it's his fault. Fair play to him. I get the feeling that most fans probably would side with the players if it came to a stand off between them and Martinez. It would probably be Moshiri's first major decision on who to back and let's be honest. The talent in the playing squad far outstrips the talent the manager has. My only worry with some of the players would be are they doing it for the good of the club given that some of them probably think this could be their last season with us or are they doing it to better their position come the end of the season

Don't forget that during this time Barkley was often being played out of position as well in order to accommodate Naismith centrally behind Lukaku. All a bit of mess really.
