Bale suspended

I really can't tell with this one, despite seeing it from a couple of angles, so I would probably have given Bale the benefit of the doubt (but wouldn't have given a penalty either). It's certainly far less worthy of a booking than Sewerez's belly-flop vs Stoke and I can't believe the likes of Bale and Fellaini have received more official sanction than the stud-raking, foul-faking, card-waving, race-baiting buck-toothed tvvat from across the park <end of fume> (n)

Nice to see a pretty balanced thread on this. I am of the same opinion as the last time he was booked. Was it a foul? Yes. Does he go down too easily? Yes.

All these keyboard refs make me laugh because I can absolutely guarantee that if it was a player from their own team 90 percent of them would be taking the other side of the argument.

Still - if we can't cope with Reading at home without Bale we don't deserve to be near the top 4.

Good luck against Chelsea later.

Mate, there are a great many that make their feelings known to Jelavic when he hits the deck, he was roundly booed for it last season at I think Fulham.... BY OUR FANS.

Ive heard if contact made by the defender, then it not a dive? find that confusing cos Bale goes down as soon if anyone goes near him, in my book that is a cheat and he only brought this on himself for his disgracful dive he done a few weeks ago.

Technically, it's not a dive. There's contact with the player, and not the ball. By the lettering of the law, it's a penalty. I don't know how that can be argued with?

The issue is how easily players go down. There's no way to write a rule saying "if player goes down with only being slightly fouled then it's not a foul".

This all day long.

Every time something like this happens the stadard reply is "oh he went down too easy".

But i'm yet to see any one actually show how a player running at full speed should go down in order for it to be a foul and not a dive.

Bale was runnign at full speed, got hit in the side of the leg knocking his foot out of his stride. Same with Maloney last week, some people claimied he went down before there was contact.

Everytime someone gets fouled its so easy to say stuff like that without it having any basis in reality.

Of course lots of players do dive and go down easily, but its annoying when people blindly say it when players clearly have been fouled.

Did anyone hear Stan Collymore going on a mad one about diving on TalkSport before the match today? Totally right about everything that he said. Talked about Bale/Suarez/Young/etc. all diving and about how contact isn't enough for a foul.

Yes, I heard that too. It's a contact sport for goodness' sake. They've got to expect a few windings/bruises for their millions. Not saying that deliberately nutting people is right like ...

Couldn't agree more.

Re the Stan Collymore discussion below. It was pointed out that there was contact made against Aguero for THAT goal last season, but he stayed on his feet and won them the league. It was also pointed out that there was contact made against Walcott yesterday, stayed on his feet got his hat-trick goal. A couple of minutes before the latest Bale booking he was in a similar position, shrugged off challenge but move came to nothing. It was almost like he had no confidence in his ability to beat the keeper so decided to go down. Maybe technically not a dive but still simulation and trying to gain an advantage by CHEATING!!!

Strangely enough I though the Maloney incident last week was a pen and we got away with it. Bale also managed to con ref in Scotland game.

I guess i wasn't making myself clear.

I'm NOT saying that because there was some contact that it was automatically a foul, of course thats bollocks.

However, i am saying that the contact on Bales leg yesterday was enough to knock it out of step causing him to lose balance and go down hence be a foul.

He didn't "go down easy", he didn't "make the most of it". He was fouled and went down due to that foul.

I'm guessing we'll have to disagree on this. I personally don't think it was a foul and that he could have stayed on his feet but thats the great thing about this game, it's all about opinions and I respect that yours is different from mine. Good discussion though.
