Ban the Burka

So, who is they? The British Citizens wearing the burka? So these 50 year old women want to wipe us out. Bit of an unfair fight i'd say. All I can see is a bitter person conveniently mixing up two different issues and latching onto a BNP policy to make those ideas look respectable. Or it could be that I'm so inexperienced at being discriminated against due to my race that I fail to see your point. If you've read my other posts you'll realise what I've been through, even when supporting Everton so I really wouldn't go there.

What "fight"? I'm not fighting against anyone. Its a simple no you may not cover your face here in the UK.

But yet again, none of that is in the middle east is it? An experience you better have before commenting.

And you're implying that - me - discriminates against you.

Oh and before you start throwing round BNP accusations etc and accusing me of being bitter - I suggest you actually go out the middle east and experience it for yourself before commenting. I do regularly.

So, if you're on a motorcycle?

But, but but. THey are British citizens, not foreigners. Many are white converts. Integration doesn't mean becoming dark skinned white people. I speak patois, I also speak London. When England play, say Ghana or Nigeria, I fail the cricket test time and again. Am I less British? You think that where in a holy war. OK, I can see that point, but is a 50 year old women who may speak perfect english, but wears a burka and is a minority within a minority on the front line of that holy war?

At least we are getting to the real arguments against the burka.

Thank you LCAB. Personally though, if I was you, I'd stick to passing on inside information about our great club and take your own advice not to post. Then again I said the same to myself and look where its got me.

1; My argument was its symbolistic value . Symptomatic of the " Fuk You " attitude of people frankly , who came asking for a better way of life . Or else , why the fuk come ???

2; Frankly , mate , You're not . So , that's that one covered .

3; As I said , if anyone British raises so much as an eyebrow , we're all Goose - Stepping Nazis .
You DO NOT know me . Nor my Politics , so that's laughing , but I am not ashamed to say , I want me fukn Country back , thanks very much . And ANYONE who doesn't like our ways or customs , well , the Airports that way ( Points ) , but then , they know that , eh ???

4; In France , the actual fine , for Burka transgression GOES TO THE HUSBAND , due to Sharia Law !!!

If you live as a ex-pat in a foreign county, you should in my opinion embrace that county's traditions, culture, and language so yes all the ex-pats in Spain should be made to "naturalise" or do-one back to wherever they came from...

As for British Muslims who decide to wear the full Monty, then I say why? ...$his society will open its arms to those who wish to integate and have skills and experience to offer, but by wearing the Burka, you are effectively cutting yourself off....I have nothing against the wearing of a veil, or head-scarf or turban, or skull-cap, but the Burka is a step too far in my opinion and leads me to believe that the wearers or more importantly their spouses/families wish to segregate them from our society.

Honestly I don' know how you would enforce it, I'm not the home secretary or the MET chief of Police...if handled incorrectly it could lead to a race riot every time some 50 year old woman was lifted off the streets by a black mariah! ...It will be interesting following the French and how they handle it.

The banning will I agree in the initial stages force people indoors, but this is something that wont change overnight, over time/generations it would ease racial integration, and help bring down the racial barriers of ignorance suspicion and fear..[/QUOT]

Thank you for an answer. Thank you. strange how nobody talks about traditional Jews. OK, they don't cover their faces, but they "keep to their own" don't use the internet, women have to wear a wig when going out. Women are not allowed to shake the hands of a man. Women are not seen as being divorced by their community if not sanctioned by a Jewish Court, which is a court "recognised" by Britain in family issues. Sound familiar? We don't impose legal sanctions upon them do we. I wonder why?

Yet, many of their practises are not much different from Muslims.

Perhaps you should wait for the first race riots in france before you look on it favourably becuase they will soon find that it is unenforceable, and if it forces women in their homes at the hand of men who force them to wear it, how does that help integration?

I suspect that the measure will encourage more women to wear the burka as a fcuk you. And the one thing we can both agree on is that I don't want more women wearing it, I want less, but I don't want to force them indoors.

I think we are as a society in general, are very visually aware, and visually dependant... the Burka is a very powerful viusal image, that, portrayed by media coverage provokes strong emotions within each of us, of gender oppression, and degradation, and something altogether something medieval that has no place in our modern world.

The orthodox Jews, and their strains of Judaism, although on the face of it appear equally oppressive and "alien" to our modern progressive secular society in general, however it does not carry the powerful visual image of the Burka, and I think that is why Orthodox Jews are not viewed with as much suspicion as Muslims who wear the Burka.

And also, you can't rob banks wearing a wig or skull cap as a disguise.

You make some good points, which i doff my hat to. You also make my point for me. i wonder what part the media and its moral panic plays in "people's emotions". We want to throw off the yoke of oppression on women, yet our boys are fighting in a country which can still jail women for runniing away from there husbands. A government we support and send men and women to die for.

Banning the burka drives it underground. It actually doesn't solve the problem you want to tackle, unless all you want to tackle is the visual representation, rather than the oppression itself. But I won't argue anymore, you've addressed my question, we are not in full agreement so let's leave it there.

I hear you, I disagree, but you have made your point. I might not like what you've said, but at least I understand where you're coming from. Case closed for me. Thanks.
