Beer, revisited

Dizzy Blonde aint too bad, but Trooper goes down better in quantity imo.

Robinsons in general isn`t particularly nice beer.
I drink in a Robinson's pub once a week in Stockport, and don't mind their ale - was on the Trooper last night. It's not that exciting, but I like that they do their own thing and don't start rolling out underweight, overhopped pish like the rest of the world.

It`s deffo an acquired taste, but in large parts of the North West and Wales, Robinson`s pubs can often be the only place that you can get a pint of cask, rather than fizz. Which you have to give them credit for.

I unwittingly tried one of these yesterday afternoon and it was a quite enjoyable beer; I wasn't aware it was strong as 9% while is a positive.

It's a fruity beer with a sleek yet slightly thick texture and, as mentioned above, it's a pleasurable drink while not tasting overly strong.

Sensibly however, I got onto a more acceptable session-ale afterwards. Not the most glorious or exciting drink but a steady ale to drink.

Three from Cumbria at the weekend :

Light Brigade - Robinson’s / milder version of Trooper.

Cumbria Way - Robinson’s / Hartley's.

Swan Blonde - Bowness Bay.

Light Brigade and Cumbria Way, weren’t bad, but the Swan Blonde was sublime, so stayed on that for the duration.

Best pint I’ve had in ages, beautiful stuff and went down a treat.
I’ve been trying to fathom which pub you’re regularly drinking in as I recognise the bar, but can’t pinpoint it.

The Cobden?

The Cobden?
They were all in Cumbria from the weekend, but my usual is the Gardeners, as they have regular changing beers every week, plus I can`t stand the licensee in the Cobden lol

Guinness for the winters, Hoegaarden/Blue Moon any other time of the year.
Besides that I do enjoy the occasional IPA
All on tap of course

Bottle of Badger's Tanglefoot. Haven't had this for yonks. Not bad for a bog standard supermarket bottle of beer, great aroma, dead fruity.
While Badger's is your supermarket staple and isn't a winner in the ale world, I do think all of their drinks are steady ales you can fall back on.

Similarly, when I'm getting my beer from Tesco etc. I always choose at least one Wainwrights or Sharpe Wolf Rock as a staple drink to have.

Doom Bar can 'koff though!

Yeah, Wolf Rock is a nice drop. Doom Bar is one of the dullest beers there is, can't get my head round it's popularity, beyond aggressive expansion and marketing.

Suns out, bbq on the go and I'm lashing down pint after pint of my 'pleasure'.

Pleasure is my bitter pale ale homebrew using citra hops. Ruddy marvelous though I say it myself though I may soon be unable sense make to.

Hop Back`s - Summer Lightning, is another good supermarket ale, that you can bung in the fridge too.

Totally agree with you on Doombar, it`s as the Carling of the real ale world and on a par with the crap that Greene King pump out.

St Austell`s Tribute is much much better. ( if kept properly )

Is it still a bit of a palaver brewing your own ?
