Beer, revisited

Not if you get into a routine. Takes about an hour to get brewing, then 2 weeks later an hour or so to steam sterilise (using a wallpaper steamer) and bottle up. A bit longer for lables.

Around 40p a pint and as good as most pubs, as its made to suit my own tastes.

The kits have come on a long way, and so long as you use brewing sugar, rather than the stuff you put in your tea, and brew at around a constant 18 to 22 (not warmer) degrees it tastes nothing like homebrew if yesteryear.

40p though.

How much for a Guinness.......

Had a couple this afternoon - fruitilicious

might have asked long ago for someone else, asking now.

anyone have recommendations for beer/bars in London? one of my Paraguayan friends who was big into the home brew movement and helped make PY a home is tromping through Europe and will be in London later this week. If I can pass along anything legit (not the London equivalent of The Lisbon) he and his wife would greatly appreciate it. as would i.

Google - Sam Smiths pubs in London.

Sam Smiths is a small independent brewery, that`s been around for a long time and only sells it`s own beers - very cheaply.

Their pubs in London are in fantastic buildings and haven`t been ruined by being modernised.

They even brew their own Porter, which is really good.

They should be more than happy with any of their pub and they won`t be paying £5 for a pint either !

!

Thanks, will pass that along. Drank a lot of Sammy Smith while in Guam in the early 90s at a bar called The Tower Of London. Loved it.

I know he'll be doing Fullers as well.. they were embedded in Paraguay a little bit before I arrived and before their craft started to take off a bit. For a long time Wild River and ESB put a smile on my face.

Appreciate any other advice. Price probably won't be too bad, given what we paid for Brazilian beer there, or the face he'll be coming to Ingerland from Paris and the 18E Belgies they sell in the 3rd.

You can get Fullers anywhere in London and it`s usually decent where ever you go.

Just had a quick look and there`s 12 Sam Smiths pubs in London and they all look like good old pubs.

The famous one is the Cittie of Yorke ;)

Mother Kelly's
Queens Head (on Acton Street)
There are a fair few Craft Beer Co's around
Hop Locker
If at a weekend, there is the Bermondsey Mile which has loads of breweries and a good bar called The Bottle Shop
Earl of Essex
The Harp (Covent Garden) is a Fullers pub which has very well kept cask (and Kernel always have a beer on)

Beer wire, The Kernel are a brilliant brewery and will be in most decent pubs.
