Beer, revisited

Thanks, will pass that along. Drank a lot of Sammy Smith while in Guam in the early 90s at a bar called The Tower Of London. Loved it.

I know he'll be doing Fullers as well.. they were embedded in Paraguay a little bit before I arrived and before their craft started to take off a bit. For a long time Wild River and ESB put a smile on my face.

Appreciate any other advice. Price probably won't be too bad, given what we paid for Brazilian beer there, or the face he'll be coming to Ingerland from Paris and the 18E Belgies they sell in the 3rd.
Have a look in here ; I often use it when visiting places for the first time.

Cool. I want to modify my existing blog to have a section on South American beer, with each country have a page, each city, organized by what I've actually done myself. Or start a second page to do it and bring in a few friends to add to the recs.

I agree totally, but for me it remains very very good.

These 6 litre kegs for the “perfect draft” range, are far superior than the bottle from the supermarket. Can highly recommend. They do a good variety of kegs on there also. I’m getting through all of them slowly but surely and there’s some crackers. Can also recommend the kwak, very very good if a little sweet. Not sure about the glass though!

Every time I've been to Belgium there's always some dopey get who drinks Kwak by raining the actual clamp!

A stunner, a bit wary of the ultra blonde tag, but two pints in ten minutes assuaged any doubts.
A recession busting £1.85 a pint from Wetherspoons in West Kirby, usually £2.15, but apparently prices lowered on a Monday. Pity the bus came. You might have surmised : drink the bugger if you see it.

Not exactly a beer, however I've just read that Dominic (of the Fly in the Loaf) and his wife Fiona are going to be running the Brewery Tap.

Both are great licensees so hopefully a once great pub will be given a new lease of life as recently (well a few years) it's been a bit of a dive.

At least we can expect good quality beer again! Anyone know if either of them are giving up their respective establishments or just adding on?

The only way I can see them going there, is if they`ve bought it as a Freehold, so they can work their magic on the place.

Fiona ( Dom`s wife ) is one of the area managers for Okells, which I would assume is reasonably well paid, so couldn`t see her leaving unless it was worth her while to do so.

It`s deffo an area that`s really up and coming around there, so in the right hands the Brewery Tap could be a goldmine.

From what I read, a hotelier/pub company has recently bought Dr Duncan's and now the same company has bought the Tap from 'The Brothers'.

Apparently, they (the company) already own a few pubs in Southport as well, nothing that I personally knew however, so maybe a build up?

I'm not sure if Dom and Fiona would have the kind of capital to own such a company, so I was under the assumption they'd be managers etc.

I'd be incredibly surprised if they simply moved in as direct licenses of the pub, as although it could be a goldmine it's not a particularly large pub.

The Baltic Market isn't open every day either, so off-peak days days will be much quieter. We could be seeing a new chain of local pubs perhaps?

Sounds like a small independent Pub Co getting off the ground ?

Just had a look and it sounds like this company - Burning Night.

They`ve bought some pubs in Southport this year.
