UK's oldest pub closes its doors after 1,229 Years

The oldest pub in Britain has been forced to close its doors for the final time after opening in 793AD- yeah, close to Jesus

I read about that over the weekend, apparently there`s a pretty big campaign to keep it open.

There`s also a Gofundme to try and raise the 100k needed to get it back on it`s feet again.

I`ll be throwing some money in, as pubs like this are the pubs that need preserving for the nation.

I've had that, very nice, and I don't particularly like hoppy beers.

It's a nice beer although I think once you've had it then you're on it for the night.

Went shopping today and popped into the Ye Cracke. Delighted to find they had a mild on. Unfortunately, by the the time I left the shops were closed.

As the shops were shut I was forced to have a swift one, which negated the disappointment. Equally nice.

Last nights offering and the best of the year so far :

Crocodile Tears 4.1% - Parkway Brewery ( all the way from Somerset )

The best way I’d describe it, would be, as a slightly less bitter / lighter version of the wonderful, but now defunct Cains Bitter.

Pure nectar.

I'll keep my eyes open for it. I agree, Cains bitter was lovely, as was their mild. Talking about mild, does anyway still drink a brown mild, or for that matter a brown bitter, a black and tan, or a snake bite ?

I still have the odd bottle of Mann’s Brown, but mild on draught does seem to be drying out.

I actually had one (a brown mild) yesterday after the match. I've not had a black and tan in ages!

Tetley's Dark Mild (keg) and a Bottle of Mann's Ale. It's quite sweet, but it's a good option if you want a shed full as it's weak as piss.

What did you think of the Amundsen stuff mate? I had a hazy IPA from there recently and it went down very nicely.

I am a fan of their work, they are generally consistent in being at the good to great end of the scale.
Their imperial stouts, such as those on that list, are like liquid, boozy puddings but a tad pricey.
