Went to the Rose and Crown in Bebington, a Thwaites pub. Unfortunately they didn't have the brown ale on, 'it's up to the mamager' apparently. Nevertheless, there was a wide selection of ales available, more than I was last there. Admittedly, that was years' ago. They must be doing something right because it was three quarters full mid afternoon. Because I'm a dyed in the wool, stick-in-the-mud, I had a pint of Thwaites bitter. And, in the immortal words of the sadly departed John Savident, "It was lovely, I say it was lovely." So I stayed on it.
One of the barmaid mentioned that there was a beer shop a few minutes away. so, up I popped, and asked if they had any mild or brown ales. So the answer was : It was if I had nailed the 95 Theses on the church in Wittenberg. For the religiously ignorant, that's a no. The ginger bearded twenty-something recommended this, yet to try it. As an aside I have had copious amounts of quince brandy.
