Beer, revisited

Do you guys have Great Lakes, Three Floyds, or Heavy Seas there? Those are my three favorite breweries right now.

No, more have started to come over though. Nottingham gets a lot of West Coast stuff in. Mianly the brewers on the site below. We also get Flying Dog, some SN, Firestone Walker, Stone, Crooked Stave, Dales, Prairie Artisan Ales, Brooklyn, did get Ballast Point but Brewdog aren't importing anymore. Some Dogfish comes over, but without the DF wishes.

A lot of breweries don't ship overseas in case the product loses its freshness etc. A bit like Kernel, Brodies in the UK, who would hold up against the US brews.

Tbh though mate, a few of the US beers are brilliant, but some aren't much better than the EU brews. I am aware we are missing out on some great ones though.

Definitely missing out as are we. I don't really get into the competition between American beers, German beers, British beers, ect. I just like trying new things and I do not really care where they come from. I think all of the macro breweries are fairly even but some of our better mass-produced stuff is losing its luster. Sam Adams Boston Lager was one of my go-to beers but it has changed a bit and not for the better.

Some of the American beers you need to try when the opportunity arises though: DC Brau, Capital City Amber Waves, Great Lakes Christmas Ale, Great Lakes Lake Erie Monster, Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold, Rogue Dead Guy Ale (West Coast so maybe available), and Heavy Seas Winter Storm. DC Brau is only in the Washington metro area but I think it'd be ruined if they started to mass produce it.

I'm always willing to try some good British beers if you have recommendations. I've tried the common ones here like various Samuel Smith's, London Porter, Boddingtons, Newcastle, and Speckled Hen. My ex used to bring this one back from home called Rhymney Dark. It was absolute gold to me.

What are the best pubs in Bristol @ste d' indica ? hopefully going on our long waited trip there soon.
We've got more than our fair share to be honest mate, you'll be spoilt for choice. One thing about Brizzle, the city is really spread out, without a traditional 'centre', so it depends where you're based a bit, but I'd say you should definitely hit King St. in the centre, you've got Small Bar, The Navy Volunteer, The Beer Emporium and Kong's (beer and old arcade games!). Nearby you've got The Apple cider boat and The Rummer, which is one of the best bars in the city.
The Hillgrove is my favourite Dawkins pub, splendid old redbrick, few minutes from the centre going uphill and from there you can strike out towards Kingsdown with Beerd, The White Bear and The Highbury Vaults on the list. You can then either head towards Whiteladies Rd with the Vittoria, The Vic, Brewhouse and The Kings Arms up the top end, and if you make it that far I'll meet you round the corner for a pint in the Coach & Horses, my local ;)
Alternatively you can head to Gloucester Rd for some lovely boozers and bars and Bedminster has some crackers as well. Each area is 10-15 mins walk out of town but in different directions.
On a nice day, the White Lion in Clifton Village is worth a stop, it's not a great pub but the view of the bridge is stunning and there's some great pubs up that way as well.
And you can't leave Bristol without a visit to the Bag O' Nails on the harbourside, crackin' old pub.
There's loads more, and some lovely country pubs outside the city too. Let me know if and when you're coming down and where you're based and I'll let you know the best ones.

I've said this before, and not sure if they distribute in UK, but you should make an effort to get some Ommegang (NY) and Unibroue (Quebec), who both make some excellent Belgian styles. @ste d' indica
