I’d have Coady over Mings personally, especially in a major tournament.
Better defender, better passer, cooler head and temperament, more intelligent.
I’d have neither starting though.
Godfrey has no chance of going but I think it’s a sign that once this tournament is over, he will be in the England squad.

....really impressed with Mings aggression and physicality. I accept he’s a bit raw, but when we played Villa recently he was competitive with DCL and even cropped up crossing a ball from the edge of the box. I liked him when he was on loan at Villa and thought he was worth a punt.

If you’d said at the end of last season that Godfrey relegated with Norwich was better than Holgate not many would have bought it. Lots of people were touring Holgate for an England cap and future Everton captain because he was playing well. His form has fallen off a cliff the second half of this season though, as has Keane’s. Hopefully this is a wake up call for both of them if they haven’t made it.
Honestly I don't think anyone who doesn't post on here would have argued with that. Holgate did well last year but his performances were hugely overrated by some on here. Godfrey had done well enough to earn himself a £20m to us, I remember arguing last summer that we weren't paying that sort of money for him, or Tomori or any of the others we were linked with, for them to play second fiddle to Holgate.
Godfrey leaping ahead of a few players here due to the fact he can play comfortably anywhere along the back four.
Very important to have some options/flexibility in your squad for a tournament.
Unfortunately the need for that sort of player has virtually disappeared with the increase to a 26 man squad. You can pretty much cover all eventualities in a squad now without needing players just for their utility value. The opportunity's there for him to show what he can do and get himself in the squad just as a centre half though.

Can imagine quite a few of the defenders on that list not wanting to go anywhere near a 50-50 with Ben before the squad gets chopped to the final 26.

Dier's awful but White's a good player. I think Godfrey's done really well in the main but I couldn't really say it would be a travesty if White got the nod over him.

Yer agree on white actually, just think Godfrey has something no other English cb has which is raw pace to burn. Think the vast majority of our CBs lack that which is why he favours walker at cb

One of the few Everton players that gave it 100% effort and desire for the full season regardless of whether he was on form or not and definitely deserves being called up, ditto Pickford and DCL too tbf.
