I think he’s massively overhyped. Far closer to the Mason Holgate bracket of quality than the John Stones bracket of quality.

We do tend to this with players, they all of a sudden become boss as soon as they sign for us. Don't get me wrong Godfrey is a good player who IMO is only going to get better as time goes on.

I like him, and think he's got potential to go to the top...
But right now minas far and away our best defender
I agree. Mina has been immense and the only question mark over his place is that he picks up quite a few niggling injuries .
Godfrey does what defenders are supposed to do. He does these tackle things. He's also Des Walker fast . Once he gets more composed on the ball and gets his positioning down , he will be an England international .
I know I mentioned Distin before but he didn't look any good at all until he got past his mid twenties .
Thankfully lots of our fans can see what he will become . A fast tackling machine . Some of his tackles last season were as great to watch as James pinging the ball about .

What did Maldini say about tackling?

Definitely a CB in my opinion. He started in the middle of a 3 on Monday. The 2 outside him were 2 slow to play RCB and LCB so we ended up pinned in. If we play 3 at the back it has to be Mina or Keane as the middle and Godfrey and Holgate either side. This is not ideal as neither Godfrey or Holgate are left footed but they are mobile enough to play the role. At the minute we should be playing 4 at the back with Godfrey partnering Mina. It might take a couple of games to get up to speed as Godfrey is still recovering his match sharpness.

Do we really have people doubting him after one game back, playing in a three against the most physical team in the league?

He was great last season, made a few mistakes as most young CBs do but his recovery pace to sweep up was invaluable and on par with peak Jagielka and Coleman putting in last ditch blocks and tackles.
