2021/22 Ben Godfrey

Wow, the state of this thread, he has played 60 minutes of football in a system that the ENTIRE team struggled in.

He is clearly in our best CB pairing, and once he has recovered from illness and regains fitness, he and Mina will be no-brainers as our CB pairing, and this thread will return to its effusive-in-praise self.

Crumbs.

First name on teamsheet when fit for me

What are Godfrey's qualities at CB?

...you know, seeing as it's a "no brainer" that he's "clearly" a starting CB?

What do you see him having done for Everton in that position that suggests that?

He has to go out and prove that and earn his place like everyone else. He's got plenty to still improve on.

He generally being boss is the main one Dave
Exactly. There is no assessment here.

He is completely unsuited for the CB position. Positionally poor, not a particularly great header of the ball.

No way will Benitez look beyond Mina, Holgate and Keane to fill a two-CB set up.

Godfrey needs a position to fill and he needs to find it now. He really should be told he's an understudy to Coleman. I bet he feels he warraants a starting slot just because he had a couple of runs out for England though.

Thankfully we have a manager who can and will lay down the law.

Well on the evidence of one season, he did, and he has, most justified by his inclusion in the initial England squad at the Euro's.

Obviously you want him to improve, but to this point, he has clearly shown he is on our best two CB's and the fact he has only had 60 mins to prove that this year after getting Covid and having no pre-season, yet weirdly getting doubters is absolutely beyond me.

Well, I don't know David, but perhaps being selected for England in the Summer, only to just miss the cut would have to provide some minuscule piece of evidence that the lad has quality.

You don't make the England squad unless, you know, you're actually playing and are a starter...

And on the quality front, he is aggressive, was rarely dribbled past (a league leader), and actually has the kind of sh*t in him that makes him an Everton-style player. May I remind you the tackle he laid at the tin-shed when we beat them for the first time since Jesus turned water into wine.

I am utterly baffled this thread is even alive at the moment. But then again, nothing surprises me in the deluded world of the Davek types...

I think he will play Saturday to nullify the threat of Ings or Watkins who are more mobile than Wood and Barnes. This will suit him better. I also think he will go with 2 not 3 centre half’s because we need to win the midfield battle. I think it will be a tough game but we have played well away from home. This maybe our toughest game so far but if we come through it with the correct result it will give the squad a real shot in the arm

I'm baffled by your recent viewpoints. You hate the RS more than most but when RB was hired you shrugged .
Now you question our arguably best defender last season . Don't tell me some of those tackles last season weren't almost pornographic .
He's young and has time for his positioning and reading of the game . At the moment it's not the end of the world as he can get back fast and twonk some useless lump .

….classic vaulting material this one, poor Dave just keeps giving.
