It isn't. At least not right now.

And Godfrey is a better RB option than Holgate for sure.

In my opinion the only thing that lacks in Godfrey CB play is positional sense as long as he has a tall partner. Get Coleman back in after the break partner Mina and Godfrey so they can build an understanding and that will come as well. Mina Keane leaves us to deep. I don't want a massive high line but we need to be 10-15 yards higher than the edge of our box. Holgate did a really good job at RB in the days of the wall as he was just deployed defensively it was in the games he was asked to go forward it was identified he should only ever be a 3rd choice RB. Godfrey is Mina long term partner if they can get a run together.

Positional sense is a big deal!

Nothing to do with that at all.

Whether he's vaccinated or not makes no difference to how it could have affected him in terms of him getting his fitness back.

I had COVID in July, 3 weeks after getting my first jab. I'm 26, so would have been in the line before 23-year-old Godfrey.

I was ill for a few days, but it took me absolutley ages to get my fitness back. I'm a keen cyclist and runner. For perspective, I cycled 110k the day before I tested positive, and 40k that day (before I knew I was positive obviously). Heart rate in the 120s/low 130s on average, averaging 28kmph.

Why would you do that you lunatic?

I absolutely agree but can only be improved by playing there. Shifting him between positions will stop this improving. If he plays LCB to Mina this will develop. If Mina is injured bring Keane as he is Mina most natural back up.
It doesn't have to improve though. It hasn't been improving.

You can do all that and still get it. They're not in bubbles anymore.
Yes, but you reduce the risk. That's the point: to do all you can to reduce the risk, protect yourself and others (including your team mates) and maximise your chances of being available for your club.

It hasn't improved because he has been switched between LB, RB and both side CB in a four. He has also played all 3 CB positions in a 3 no wonder he is all over the place. Apart from about 8 games in a row at LB I doubt he's played the same position consecutively more than 3 times in a row. He doesn't offer enough in a forward sense to be a full back and he seems to be able to at least use his left foot which is what you want from a right footed CB. His aerial deficiencies are not going to be as exposed alongside Mina.

He played CB 15 of the last 18 games last season. It didn't help. But he also played a full season there with Norwich and it hasn't helped.

I agree he isn't a fullback but I think he's left a lot to be desired at CB.

How many times out if them 15 was it a 3 and how many was a 4. How many with each partner. I remember in the games alongside Holgate he was always right and alongside Keane and Mina he was on the left. When we played 3 at the back he tended to end up LCB as Holgate was playing RCB. I know we won't agree on this as people tend to stick to there opinions.

This is a lot of caveats for a defender to simply take up the right positions.

I'll change my opinion if Godfrey stops losing players in dangerous areas and conceding shots because he isn't positioned right but that has to happen first.

Give him a run at LCB alongside preferably Mina but Keane ok and I'm sure he'll improve. Also once we are stronger team wise we will be more of a front foot team.

The front foot thing might take years. I know Doucoure has been good this year but for me the Norwich game showed his limitations as a front foot player. I think we'd need a complete midfield overhaul. Other players won't fit as well too.

I'm glad some people have faith he'll get better still. I'm just much less sure.

It would actually allow us to play 4-3-3 with Gomes in the team. Them extra few yards forward we could play will make a big difference.

@TheBigIguana My preferred team is
Pickford
Coleman Mina Godfrey Digne
Doucoure Allan Gomes
Richarlison Calvert-Lewin Gray

Townsend is really unlucky to miss out but Richarlison is our best LF and RF and therefore it's a choice between him and Gray.

If you went 4-4-2
It's Townsend for Gomes and he is RW Gray LW and DCL is partnered by Richarlison. I just think none of our CM can play in a 2 apart from Allan and Doucoure so not only would they have to play every game but they will be outnumbered. This was why we needed Gbamin to get fit.
