This is utterly true. The art of defending is almost non-existent at the top level, be it in club or international football. It's definitely a gap in the market for a good defensive manager. Our full backs are a case in point. Any attributes they are deemed to possess are invariably in the opposition's half of the field. In the Premier League, you'd go a very long way if you had a George Graham style approach these days. Stop conceding clown show goals and you'd be contending for Europe even if you lacked a cutting edge. I still maintain the 1-0 victory is the sweetest, most efficient of them all.

If Arsenals back 4 was around with a top keeper and good defensive midfielder then it woule be very interesting to see how they would get on.

Our two centre backs of Godfrey and Mina complement each other well in their skillsets and it could be something that we see under Benitez.

Interesting Benitez has said Godfrey is 70% fit. Something a few of us have been saying.

Apart from both being right footed they are a perfect compliment for each other. They get games together they will knit. Holgate and Keane are the slightly less good version of both.

There are teams that play very conservatively. They don't go far even when they have great players. Spurs right now are an example. They don't have a mid-table squad.

Id go a bit further than "slightly" :)

I think Mina is 8.5 out of 10 but has reached his peak. I think Godfrey is 8 out of 10 but could get to 9 with the right coaching. Holgate is a 7 out of 10 with potential of making 8 if he knuckles down. Keane is 7 out of 10 but has also reached his ceiling so yeah maybe it's a little more than slightly. This is why I want a 9 out of 10 left sided CB to initially partner Mina but play alongside Godfrey as well. Needed him in now as Godfrey ideally needs to learn positional sense and if it's alongside Mina it will be LCB whereas any new guy it would be RCB. If Godfrey and Mina do get it together I think we stick with what we've got and get Branthwaite ready to take over from Keane as Mina back up and eventual replacement. I'm lead to believe he is actually right footed just he plays left because he's also comfortable on that foot. This means he will be ideal in time just think we need to find a way to utilise him. Me I would keep him in the squad as @Eggs says loan moves seldom work out. I'd have him on every 9 man bench but also playing in u23s. I know that is level he is above but he needs to train with our first team. In the u23s he could be made captain and made responsible for making that team stronger. Him and Welch would be my current starting CBs. In 2 years he could then be good enough to be first choice back up and taking games of Mina. If he's first choice back up he will start some games alongside Godfrey as Mina will always miss games. In 2 years Godfrey will be at an age where he can be senior CB.

Wonder where you put Branthwaite?

I thought Benitez' body language was interesting when he said those comments. He looked very uneasy answering that question, his body language was anxious when answering this question. Most unlike typical Benitez body language, imo.
