I think for that to be true he would have to have not been an ever present in the worst backline in the league right before we signed him. The thing about choosing prospects to buy is usually they don't spend a season being absolutely terrible and then turn world class. Rarely is the development curve that steep.

That always happens with new signings, they always get overly praised initially. We can’t help it, I’ve been guilty of it in the past, it’s because you want to convince yourself they’re a good signing. Happened with Cenk Tosun.
