2021/22 Ben Godfrey

Godfrey may have looked shaky in his 1st game at RB (wasn’t it his debut?), but he has all the tools to do well there. He’s fast, aggressive, comfortable on the ball & not afraid to get forward.

Not sure how well he can cross the ball, but let’s face it, that’s not a high bar.

My only concern with him playing FB is it means one or (god help us) both Keane & Holgate have to cover CB.

But he played it a few times and was very poor. He won't suddenly turn it around.

I'd rather play Holgate there especially away we need Godfrey's pace at the back. Ultimately looks like Benny's asking his full backs to be more defensive

I;m speechless we failed to get a RB in.

The club's overall mis-governance is captured in this one issue.

This.

If I were the manager (God save us from that fate), I would have lost my temper at Brands at least twelve months ago. I would have gone into his office and screamed (in all caps), "We need a right back! Why can't you see this! We needed one now! We will need one in January! Spend every [redacted] minute between [redacted] now and [redacted] January on finding us a [redacted] right back!"

Then I would have let out a stream of profanity like the one Kyle lets out at the aliens in the first South Park episode. You know, the one where it's all bleeped out and Wendy asks Stan what a [bleep] [bleep] is and he doesn't know.

In other words, I would have gotten Philadelphia on Brands' [redacted].

Hope he is back for this weekend. I'd prefer him at CB or even in midfield but happy for him to play fullback if that's how we get him back in the 11.

…but Benitez is running the show when it comes to transfers. Benitez brings players in, Brands makes suggestions but only acquires a player when given the green light by the Manager. This process is a matter of record.
